Finding Good Developers - Where do you look?

Hi,

I'm helping someone look for good Magento & PHP developers to migrate their current ecommerce site from a legacy system. He wants individuals that he can develop a long-term working relationship with rather than going through an agency, and he wants someone based in Europe so the language barriers are lower & they're working in the same or similar time zones.

I've tried Upwork & freelancer without much luck. Where would I post a listing for something like that here? I know there's a Warriors for Hire section, but that's more for advertising your services than recruitment, right?

(sorry, I've had an account as a content writer for a long time, but I haven't been on the site in some time.).

Thanks for any suggestions you might have. I don't know all the ins & outs of the project yet, but I my full-time job is in IT just not ecommerce, so I'm trying to help out.

The section here would be 'wanted - members looking to hire you'....but if major freelance sites didn't yield a developer not sure what the result would be.

Could it be you are asking too much or explaining too little...in your freelancer ads?

Since the requirement is 'based in europe' and 'similar time zone' seems the most targeted ads would be on sites based in Europe or in the languages and time zones required.

I don't think we're asking for too much, but explaining too little could be the problem. Also, the owner has been promised a lot from people in India, Pakistan, etc. who couldn't really deliver that he's skeptical of anyone from those countries.

Same with agencies - they charge a lot, then take forever to deliver.
He's looking for a few individuals he can develop a relationship with. If they work out, he wants to make them full time.

So, it's a matter of finding someone who's good and just the right fit. And, I'm guessing that many of the good people are already fully employed, or at an agency.

Recruitment is hard and it's not my specialty. Even at my corporate IT job, we have a hard time recruiting and keeping talented developers.
