How do you track revenue on Shopify drop-shipping campaigns?

This is with regard to end-to-end tracking from traffic source to conversion and back.

We have been in talk with Oberlo and Printify about getting only the net profit as a Shopify liquid tag when order line items have a unit cost -- we're working with their APIs (as well as the AliExpress API directly) to build a Shopify App so that others can assign unit cost to items in their Shopify store in order to calculate the profit.

The problem we've run into is that it's nearly impossible to get a usable value for "total order profit" on the Shopify checkout page with any popular Drop-shipping/Print on demand suppliers. I'm wondering if any of you have encountered this or have any interest in a Shopify app that would accomplish this.

It could most easily be implemented by having a "cost" line item for each product in admin - something practically every other shopping cart application has, but not Shopify.

Granted, it will never be 100% accurate because it costs different amounts to ship different products to different places but having a place to put an average cost would certainly be better than nothing at all.

We enter every sale and every total cost in a spreadheeet every day, manually, before also adding it to our accounting application. We can see how much profit was generated by every single order that way. It takes an extra minute per order but an extra minute isn't that much if it is that important to you.

Another one I've heard of is called Profiteer. Does Order Metrics determine the unit cost automatically or must you enter in the unit cost manually for each product variant?

Just checked that out. It looks like an AMAZING app (although I doubt it really does all of that for free, as Shopify suggests).

The other issue we ran into with Oberlo was that the unit cost per sku with Oberlo differed on the same sku with AliExpress. Not sure which to go by. In terms of services like Printify it was almost impossible to automatically determine the unit cost without modifications to their API.

OrderMetrics.io looks awesome but this was the part we were looking to avoid: "Manage Cost of Goods data (COGS) - uploaded manually or in bulk via spreadsheet"

It's a shame that companies like Oberlo and Printify aren't more aware of the performance marketing industry (i.e. people on this forum).

Really? It is that much of an onerous burden to upload your product costs one time?

It's these small tasks that seem to add up. I'm not sure where to draw the line but I normally look at things that could very easily be automated and often wonder why they're not.

I guess I just don't understand why it isn't a problem to create a product page, its description, various tags, upload pictures, maybe enter the variants of those products as options as well as the price you are selling them for and a "suggested retail price", but somehow also adding one more thing - your actual cost - is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Ahh, got it! It's simply because the printify product -> shopify store workflow prior to entering unit cost is almost completely automated. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you; it's only that prior to the unit cost entry it's quite easy to be spoiled by how easy things are up until that point. I'll stop whining now
