Change Ecomm Site to Amazon Affiliate (or other) Site

I've run an ecommerce site since 2009. For the first few years, we carried products for both consumers and industry professionals. When we shuttered our B&M storefront, we lost the ability to inventory items the consumer would also purchase from us (industry pros also purchased these items) and offered only equipment that most consumers wouldn't purchase. Sales have dwindled and coupled with a medical condition I tried selling off the site, with very little interest. What are your thoughts on changing the site over to an Amazon affiliate storefront using something like Fresh Store Builder? Other suggestions would also be appreciated.

i think it might be a good idea to do the switch to the amazon afflaite site. i just switched from fba amazon to amazon affliate. i make the same money without spending money on inventory and shipping and all that stuff.I love amazon store builder but i hired somoen to build my sites. so first put up the site and then you need 3 sales to get the final amazon affliate approval.

I really appreciate your input, tristatemedia! I'll look around at sites and then hire someone to make it happen. Thanks again!

Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but have you considered drop shipping your products so you don't have to hold inventory?

All of the equipment we sell is dropshipped from the various manufacturers. Unfortunately, the supplies that we sold when we had the B&M storefront is not easy to find a dropshipper for the name brands that sold. Plenty of off-brands can be dropshipped, though.

I am assuming that you contacted the people you worked with before at the brands and they have told you that they will not dropship. Seems odd to me that they wouldn't do that, since you already have an established customer base. They may have to add a small ($5-15) handling fee per order but that should be doable. If they say they are not set up for that it is simply incorrect. They definitely have a department that handles returns and replacements and they constantly ship things onesy-twosey.

Still, if they won't dropship, perhaps they can give you contact info for a large buyer or distributor who very well might.

On the supplies side, none of the manufacturers did any kind of dropshipping. These companies are very large and have very large minimums for orders. In many cases, we would split orders from some manufacturers between two to four B&M storefronts, just to meet the minimum.

How about asking one of those B&M storefronts that you used to split orders with if they'll dropship? We have had a number of sites where we have swung deals with regular retailers and still gotten a pretty darned good markup. You aren't going to get the margins you had before but you also don't have the overhead that you did before.
