Change rooting number in Paypal

Hello,
I have a bank account in Bank of America that i'm trying to link with Paypal. That been said, when i enter the rooting number and the bank account number Paypal tells me that it's not possible to add this account.
That been said, i heard that Paypal doesn't allow to add banks of america and it recognises them by their rooting numbers, so i was wondering is it possible to use a different rooting number with my bank account ?
If it succeeds, will i still receive my money in my respective account even thought i set a different rooting number ?
I still don't get the all idea about what rooting number is and what it's for, if it's mandatory or not ?

So if anyone has an explanation for it i'll be greateful !

Thank you !

My guess: You are trying to claim a US address but your bank acct is alerting PP that you are not in the US. Just a guess - only paypal can answer your question.

It is not a 'rooting' number - it is a 'routing' number that identifies your bank and it cannot be changed. It is used by banks for wire transfers, etc WITHIN the US. If your bank acct is associated with a foreign address you would not use a 'routing number'.

    Ask paypal.

Wow thank you for the valuable and clear explanations. That sure did clarify a lot of things that i did not know.

However, you said earlier routing numbers are used by banks for wire transfers, etc WITHIN the US What if i wanted to send money from an european account to an american bank account, will that be possible ? That means sending from a EU account that has a swift code to an american account with routing number, is this kind of transaction possible and vise versa ?

      Thank you again !

I think the EU equivalent may be IBAN but swift may also be part of it...not sure. Really need to check with your EU bank if that is where the transfer originates...US has a lot of financial regulations and the banks know what they are and how to do the transfer.

Bank of America has quite a bit of info on their sites about international transfers....start with that.

Well, if the bank account emanated from Payoneer then yes, you can't use it.

Why the heck will paypal reject BOA?

    There is more to this.

There WAS more to this - the transfer is not from the US....routing numbers are US transfers.

I might not be a US resident but my account is, so normaly it should connect to Paypal, why can't it work ?
