Change Shipping Origin address to a fake one

Hello,



I recently created a shopify store, while doing so i set my actual real address which is located in Europe.

However, i want for my customers to see in their invoices a USA address instead of Europe so i want to change my address to a fake U.S address.

That been said, i've heard some other cases of people who tried to change their address for the second time in their shopify stores and got their stores closed down right after because of that !

So i wanted to make sure of the legitimacy of this information. If anyone has any information or experience of any sort in a similar case, i'll appreciate any advice !

    Have you looked at shopify's term or service and see if the answer is in there ? And if it is not than reach out to shopify directly. You can get the wrong advice here from people with good intentions.

      I didn't look at the term of service however i called them directly and they told me that it doesn't seem to be a warning like that !

      When i called them and they asked me to reveal the location i connect from, in the shopify settings it displays there the country i connect from so it reveals everything.

      Do you think that they verify the validity of the address itself, because i don't see how they would ?

      Maybe if i use a VPN will that work ?

      What do you think ?

    Or, you could set up a US forwarding address and not have to cross your fingers and hope you get away with it, although, I would recommend setting up an actual U.S. business entity.

    Also keep in mind that showing a U.S. address would also set you up for charging and remitting sales tax in that state under nexus laws.

      Thank you mate,

      Wow that's realy good to know mate,

      As i found out that there is a logging system that saves the city, country where you connected from, so even if i put a US forwarding address it might still be suspicious that i'm connecting from the other side of the world don't you think ?

      By U.S business entity, do you mean an LLC ?

      By taxes do you mean that i will be charged by Shopify directly or the IRS for my business address in the U.S ?

    Where you connect from has nothing to do with the business address. We have several business entities. One of them is located in Wyoming but various people maintain the site in the admin panel from Idaho and Florida. Nobody who works on the site is in Wyoming but we have Wyoming set up as the official business address in Shopify.

    No, not the IRS, the Department of Revenue in the state where you have your entity listed on your website could come after you.

      I understand what you are saying, but these locations you've mentioned before are all located within the U.S as for my case i'm puting an american address while being on total different continent. Does the address has to be valid ? Do you know if they check it's validity ?

      Because some clients can be judgemental with the origin of the location, so i don't want any kind of descrimination because of that. That's why i'm trying to put a fake US address, that been said the products and the services provided remain quality high !

        What people see on the front end of your website has nothing to do with what you put into admin. You don't have to show an address at all on the live site.

    I didn't look at the term of service

    That doesn't make sense - why wouldn't' that be the first place you check? You AGREE to those terms - shouldn't you know what they are?

      I should have, except those terms can be quite long and the info can come in a hidden twisted meaning, that's why i'm looking for a straight clear answer for experienced individuals !

    Contact Shopify support and said you are setup a new branch in US, eventhough you're still in Europe.
