Should you offer customers the option of buying related accessories on the product page?

We are making a product that has a lot of accessories available to it. The problem I am having is that I can offer all of the accessories to the customer as "add ons" on the product page but relaying the information about them is hard.

These accessories have specs that need to be read about but relaying that on the same page with the information about the main unit they will work on is hard.

Is it a wise idea to offer 6 product accessories with descriptions within a description of another product? We figured they would want to buy it as they go along but I am unsure now.

Here is my idea: https://www.vitavibe.com/CORE-Series...ar-_p_327.html

The problem is that all the information in the description can not be really shown. There are more pictures of the accessories that can't be easily shown. I do not see a lot of websites doing what we are trying here. I am unsure if I am "making new ground" or just doing something dumb.

The page is not live and so not in its final format. No judgments haha

I would add a section of directly related products below the product page.

Take Amazon, for example, they have sections of "customers who viewed this item also bought" and "sponsored products related to this item" and so on. Just go to any product page on Amazon and you'll see what I mean.

What you could also do is go snoop around at your competitors' stores and look for products with add-ons and see how they are doing it.

But hey, I'm not even in the e-commerce space, so take my advice with a grain of salt, just dropping ideas here.

I completely agree with the Amazon reference. Suggestive purchase when you purchase this product is a great way to let others see how else to use this product.

Put a section in the space right below the product pic thumbnails and add to cart button (right above the tabbed info section) and call it "Optional Accessories" where you list each accessory with title & thumbnail linked to it's own product page to get more info.

Don't forget, videos are great, too. If you think the accessories will confuse people, videos can show them exactly how they are used.

But my guess is your market will know exactly what they are for. Your biggest goal is to make sure they know they are available for sale. Regardless, however, videos are always good if they are short, to the point and easy to follow.

We not only include the accessories as add-ons via a "people who purchased this also bought" module, but we usually include an "options" or "add-ons" textual section at the bottom of the full product description that has a sentence or two about each of the add-ons (and links that open in a separate window to those add-ons' pages). We also have an "Add This?" section of check boxes above the Add to Cart button where customers can add them to their product purchase. Depending on the type of site, we may also even have a "Wait, did you forget?" pop-up on the Shopping cart page that offers appropriate add-ons for what a customer has added to their cart.

I second the post above. Have a look at Amazon and see how they promote related products on product pages.

I just checked out your product page and as someone who regularly goes to the gym I am some-what familiar with your initial product but your "accessories" area is understated. My first impression is "I'm interested in this product but I have no idea what to do with these accessories". The Amazon references are absolutely correct however I think this is a different application of a similar idea.

You have two product pictures, one of the product and one of the wall fasteners. Adding a quick video to this area that shows how to use this product AND some of the accessories would be one option. Secondly, you could add more pictures of that product PLUS how the accessories add to that product.

    Hope this makes sense..

The idea was to try and upsell by offering the products it works with on the same page as the product.

We might should add a "frequently bought together" slider and focus more on the actual product instead.

It's a great idea.. we've implemented the same concept in several shops that the owners requested.. go for it.
