Amazon FBA - Newish Seller Seeking a Mentor / Advice

Hi guys. First time posting on this site.

In the way of background, I've been selling on Amazon for about 6 months in my spare time while working a full time job as a technology consultant. I'm clear on the logistics of finding and launching an FBA product. I went the JumpSend/Viral Launch ==> Alibaba => Freightos route as I'm sure many did before me. My first manufacturing run was not exactly profitable, but it has picked up steam in the last month or two in terms of sales volume, and so I decided to place and additional order this month. Far and away, my main underestimation from a cost perspective, when comparing my financial projections to the actuals that have come in, was advertising (Amazon PPC only). This is what I've identified as the primary driver of my unprofitability thus far.

Anyways, I'm looking for advice/mentorship from a successful Amazon seller that has been down a similar path to mine. Maybe you've even been able to quit your job as a result of your success (that's my real goal in this, let's be honest). Maybe you've just been able to turn a profit - I'd love to hear from you, too. Really - I'll take advice from anybody who thinks they have something to offer.

Specifically, I'm hoping for help in the following areas:
  1. What is the best strategy for receiving product reviews? I have implemented several email campaigns soliciting reviews, but my review rate is approximately 4% of orders.
  2. What are the best overarching strategies for Amazon PPC advertising? I ran an automatic campaign for some time, which I analyzed and revised down to a Manual campaign, using only the best keywords. However, my ACOS is consistently higher than I need it to be (about 50-60% on average, whereas for my products - I need 30%).
  3. In your experience, are any other marketing endeavors particularly fruitful? For example, I've been considering setting up a landing/squeeze page and advertising for it using Google Ads, and building a customer list that way. Is that worth my time?
  4. Any other recommendations for a new Amazon seller?

Thanks to all in advance!

I will only talk about reviews. In some niches, it is extremely difficult to get reviewed. But in others, you will get reviewed as many times. But I discovered that if you offer something in return, buyers will not hesitate to give you reviews. I do offer an ebook on every review made. It is doing great.

My very best advice is to take a look at Jim Cockrum's Proven Amazon Course.

IMO this is by far the best way to learn a ton of useful information about running an FBA business. Starting my FBA business was by far the best thing I have done online to build a business and the Proven Amazon Course is what made it possible.

There is an excellent and helpful community related to this course and the course itself is dynamic; by that I mean it has new features and sections added to it on a regular basis.

As I mentioned above this is my top suggestion for both new and experienced FBA sellers..

  • My advice is to follow the expert in this Amazon FBA marketplace and for me my success from this mentor has been overwhelmingly incredible.

Kevin David talks about his own trials and tribulations when it comes to becoming a powerseller in Amazon, I took on board his advice in a webinar I saw and then signed up for his mentoring program, yes it cost me $2k but I have to say that my results since doing this have outweighed the cost of his training and mentoring. I talk about it in my blog.

There is only 1 expert to follow in the Amazon FBA for me personally and if anyone has a query in this area, I recommend taking a look at his course, the webinar is free. You can learn a lot with this, it is called Kevin David's Amazon FBA Ninja. Hope this helps.

Isn't it against Amazon rules to offer anything for a review? But many sellers seem to do it. Join'em and take a risk?

We are quite new to Amazon FBA as well. Infact we've only just started! You question is therefore apt for us. We would also like to know if anyone has been able to make a success of FBA without spending so much on all the courses online (we know you have to invest in yourself but no budget for that yet). Best places to source for products and how best to list your product for optimum exposure etc.
