I came across an infographic which shows how discounts affect consumer buying behaviour. Have discount/coupon codes helped you sell your service/product? Were you able to have repeat customers? Share your thoughts.

Absolutely! Everyone likes to think they are getting a discount. You should always be either running a limited time sale or offering a limited time discount code. FOMO!

I used to own an ecommerce store not too long ago and all I can say is, discount codes really boosted our sales. There is something in the psychology of reduced pricing that makes people want to buy.

I don't know of any specific statistics but I can only speak from my personal experience.

There is another way they could be affecting buying behaviour. Whenever I see an "apply coupon" box at the checkout and I don't have a coupon, I always feel I'm overpaying.

TOP TIP: To browse the forum like a Pro, select "View Classic" from the drop-down menu under your user name.

That is why you should remove that coupon box if your site does not offer discount coupons.

If you DO offer coupons, but the customer just doesn't know what they are, it is an excellent idea to have text near that box saying something like "Don't have a coupon? Give us a call!" (along with your phone number). You could link to your contact us form, instead (or do both), but phone calls convert WAY better than emails.

Yep. Ideally, you'd show the coupon box only when you have a campaign running, but that could be difficult when you're running split campaigns. That's when the "contact us" idea could come into play.

I promote Clickbank products so I always check discounted products because they sell faster. So discounts and coupons are critical if you want to increase sells.

It depends if you trained your customers to ask for a coupon code.

Yes, they are... people like to make the best opportunities and when they know an item cost less at the moment, they are propelled to purchase immediately for fear of missing out on a good deal.

How exactly do they affect the mindset of customers? Can you share some insights?
