Poor Quality Drophip sites advertised on FB

It has been a hobby of mine for the past few weeks to open every ad on FB that to me is obviously a dropship site on Shopify. I am thinking of dipping my toes into the biz, but I want to educate myself by seeing how others do it. I have to admit, I have seen absolute garbage ecom sites out there that make me question how they are making any money. I obviously see that they have 97k shares, 4k comments, etc, etc, but when I go to the website, I see poor quality design, flat out lies, default options that haven't been changed on Shopify, links that go nowhere, spelling errors, etc. I can't determine if the people running these sites are just lazy or if they don't know what they are doing. Today I saw a site with an about us and return policy page that had another dropship site name in there instead of their own. (I guess they forgot to change it!) I can tell some of these are foreign (not based in the USA), and I can tell some of the ads I click on for different sites are being run by the same person when I see identical wording for different products. My point is, how is this hurting the legitimate dropshippers who put actual effort into their sites and are trying to be legit? What are some of the things you have seen? Thanks!

I obviously see that they have 97k shares, 4k comments,
Easily purchased in many different places.

I would think it would help them.

It depends. We get tons of skeptical people visiting the the Facebook page of one of our businesses who immediately declare it is a scam (I assure you, it is not). The reason for that is that a TON of people have been scammed by companies running ads on Facebook. Now, they don't last all that long before Facebook discovers them as such, but they just re-enter with a new scam under a new name and continue to rip people off. That definitely DOES hurt legitimate businesses!

Furthermore, the constant deluge of ads in a Facebook timeline makes people grow weary of seeing them. Those who do click on them may be less prone to do so in the future if the vast majority of them are poor quality or suspicious websites that they are re-directed to.

Finally, just because you see ads doesn't mean people are succeeding (especially with Facebook advertising). This forum is littered with more people who are trying and failing than those who are succeeding. It's like everything else in eCommerce (and pretty much life). 80% of the people fail, 10% have some degree of success and another 10% do very well. Ecommerce is something that almost anybody can do (like most things) but those who actually succeed are devoting far more energy toward their success. They have a plan and if they fail, they learn, modify and try again.

Oh, and one last thing ... the model that most people are using for dropshipping - the AliExpress/Shopify/Facebook one - rarely works out. If you are going to do that model, I strongly suggest that you do it for a very limited time, finding the few winners, improving those products and then private labeling them as your own brand.

Yeah, you are right. I've seen lots of Dropshipping sites and most Dropshipper make common mistakes like:

    1) Not giving proper titles
    2) They put the same description that is in AliExpress
    3) Forget to remove a brand logo from product image etc.

There are lots of other things to consider in order to run a Dropshipping store successfully.
