I've been a long time "lurker" in the Warrior Forum and I've been stuck in the not doing anything about starting a side business mode. I'm hoping to get unstuck in 2020 and just get out there. Here is one thing that I just can't get past and I'm hoping that someone can help.

As you know, there are A LOT of gurus out there. And so many people claim to be making millions online and then they are now selling their system. My question is ... how many of these people are BS?

My thoughts ...

#1. If you are making millions, why would you be selling your secrets?
#2. If you are making millions as a dropshipper, why are you advertising a course?

I want to start something, but I don't want to waste my time. Can anyone give any guidance on this? I'm trying to understand what's realistic to expect.

Assume they all are. Make a good common sense decision based on your own research. Ignore most of the people saying they made millions.

Multiple streams of income. Most everybody making millions has more than one source of income. You could also ask, why if you are making millions in real estate do you invest in stocks? Kind of a silly question if you think about it that way.

I want to start something, but I don't want to waste my time.
How much time have you wasted waiting and wondering and being afraid of being scammed? Do your research, decide on a model, start small, and build it up over time making adjustments as needed. That's the only way you will really know if anything works.

Can anyone give any guidance on this? I'm trying to understand what's realistic to expect.
Many people will be more than willing to push their favorite gurus, their partners, their own scams, etc. Instead of asking to be lied to, read forum posts and blog posts and social media posts to learn more. Go through some funnels to find out what they are really doing. See what Google has to say about the methods or gurus you are interested in ignoring much of the positive advice--look for real reviews.

All of the above was how I got out of your same situation years ago. At some point, we just have to dive in or if not dive in at least get our toe and then our foot wet. Standing on the beach isn't helping at all--gotta get wet.

    Good luck.

I agree with Mark's comments. Just to add:

There aren't any secrets. Business isn't like the Da Vinci Code with a cabal of millionaires jealously guarding some ancient scrolls. All the information you're likely to need is already out there, waiting for you or any other willing and able researcher to uncover.

Like any business ever, you start by finding a market that you can bring value to, then you come up with a means of delivering and promoting that value.

Like Mr. Donovan said, there are no secrets.

My opinion is that these information sellers fall into one of two groups.
    1) They sell courses. That's how they maker all their money. and their information is mostly borrowed from other courses.

    2) They have a real business, have produced a good profit, and just want others to know about it. Here is something to consider. Most real experts eventually write books, produce a course, or provide training to newbies. That's what experts do.

A great way to begin is to go on Amazon, find several books on the business you are interested in, and read the reviews. A first few will be from the author's friends, but the rest will be real. Bad advice gets bad reviews. Good advice gets good reviews.

And the best gurus have written at least one book.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

    Expect?

All beginners waste time..lots of it...and make mistakes...lots of them.

You get bloodied and dirty. You almost quit, but not quite. And you try something else, learning along the way.

In my entire life, I have never known someone to find a course, as a newbie, learn from that one course, and be successful right away.

In the beginning, everything is a waste of time. You just can't tell the difference between a good idea or a bad one. Eventually, you start to figure it out.

And then you may become a guru yourself. But what you tend to forget is the struggle it took before you got anywhere. The wasted money, the bad advice, the wasted time, the ideas that never worked.

But, you have to go through it. We all did.

    Now you know.

As someone who sells courses and have taken many, many courses, I'll give you my perspective ...

I have never paid for a course that I did not learn something from. Some courses are certainly better than others and certainly there are courses that are far too basic - likely because the person who wrote it has only a basic knowledge of things and somehow lucked out, making good money because he/she hit the right product niche at the right time.

All of the information on how to be successful is out there in one form or another for free. The problem is, organizing all of that information into a step-by step process that is easy to follow and knowing which information is not accurate or is out of date. The best courses are extremely detailed, constantly updated and take you one step at a time through everything you need to know, showing you exactly what to do and in the order they MUST be done. Skipping steps because you don't feel like doing them or because you don't think they are important is the surest way to derail the entire process.

Mostly, I think people either succeed or they do not because of the way they are wired. There are dozens of ways to make money online and all of them work. Some work better than others IMHO and some are better suited for one kind of person than another. Back when we had private one-on-one coaching, it was pretty easy to see who was going to be very successful within a few minutes. Those people tended to already be successful in something else in life or they had certain skill sets that gave them an immediate advantage (they were great writers, they were business owners or upper management at a company, they had sales backgrounds, etc.).

And, of course, some people just don't have the self-discipline or the work ethic to keep plugging away before they give up. Nothing about any eCommerce method is beyond what any high school graduate can do. We know hundreds of people who have been successful after implementing the steps in a single course. We know many more hundreds who were not. It's not the course as much as it is the individual.

The biggest mistake I think that people make is that they get too much advice from too many people - many of whom have never been successful but they "read about it somewhere". Too many people give a half-hearted effort, aren't successful and blame the course. Then, they reach for the next shiny new object and find failure again.

There are no get rich quick schemes. It takes real work to be successful. Find a solid course, do every single step, do not give up and stick to that one course. If after a couple years of really trying, you aren't successful, sure, try another entirely different type of eCommerce course.

We created our online courses for our family and friends, initially. It was just easier to create a course to show them how we were making money online than to coach them all, one-by-one. From there, it evolved into a bigger course as more things had to be taught to more people who had lesser skill sets. Eventually, we made it available to the public. We don't even break even with the hourly expense spent to create and maintain them. The gross dollars taken in from our online courses isn't even 5% of what we make from our online stores.
