Hi guys,

Hopefully it's the right place to ask my questions.

I am a newbie seller to e-commerce, and also a newbie seller to global e-commerce .
In my case, the current main business is: bags, jewelry, accessories, and some hand-made products (including tableware, pottery, bags, and accessories).

I would like to ask how to pack it? What material or packaging method will be suitable for these categories I sell?
Do you have any package samples I can view? How do you guys do the packaging pack part?

Thank you all!
Best,
-N

First off would suggest reading this post here on the Warrior Forum. Its about packaging - https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...l#post11489861 or read the whole thread where the poster also talks about Poly Bubble Bag Mailers.- https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...days-ebay.html

This link to eBay shows what the mailers look like. Disclaimer, not affiliated with this seller. https://www.ebay.com/itm/25548370705...r=555436827711 Here is another seller - https://www.ebay.com/itm/37308782122...cAAOSwE6Ze690E

I think the best material is cardboard or paper, as they are environmentally friendly.

Right - because pottery ships so safely in paper...

The answer here is dependent on what it is you are shipping. There are some kinda universal variables to consider. The greatest thing to consider is the buyer experience when opening the package that contains the item. Is it a small item in a huge box with a couple 2 or 3 air pillow things that do nothing ( standard Amazon package ) OR is the item protected and packaged in a manner that shows the sender actually cared about the item?

The one we pay probably the most attention to is wet / water damage. I can only speak to what happens to packages in the States... but they are left on porches, by the back door, by the garage door, etc, and if you get an amount of rain the package will get wet.

We place ALL soft goods in a zip lock bag. and then usually a bubble mailer.

Books would be in a zip lock a layer of cardboard top and bottom and then in a poly mailer

Jewelry and accessories will go in a small zip lock that is then taped to a piece of cardboard and then wrapped with a layer or 2 of soft foam sheeting - like the type that might be used to place between dinner plates.

Pottery and dishes... we use 2 methods

Method one for say a mug, we use a rigid sleeve that the mug slips into a piece of hard core foam top and bottom and then a paper filler to center the sleeve in the box.

Method 2 is a piece of cardboard cud to to slide into the box and the item is shrink wrapped to that piece of cardboard. Again we use hard foam top and bottom. We lay in a layer of shredded paper drop in the shrink wrapped cardboard and then fill the remaining space with shredded paper.

When in doubt... double box - meaning pack the item in a box and then place that box in another box surrounded on all 4 sides with the shredded paper

We do NOT use bubble wrap in any way shape or form. We use shredded paper as in recycled newspaper run through a shredder - we get the paper for free - and use an easy to obtain $30 document shredder

    Hard core foam ( https://www.homedepot.com/p/Owens-Co...-36L/100320356 )

In extreme cases we will use the hard foam to create a box in a box - top, bottom and all 4 sides - and we again use paper to fill.

The use of the hard foam insulation is more about keeping the boxes shape in case of a drop and then allowing the paper to absorb the impact forces.

I would say one of the biggest considerations when shipping is weight. Paper by volume weighs less than say bubble wrap. The other reason we use shredded paper is it has an amount of "gives". Drop a box with a mug in it that has been wrapped tight with bubble wrap, the handle will almost always break. There is an amount of impact and bounce. Using the shredded paper, there is an amount of compression, and less a bounce, and the outcome is less breakage.

If there is specifically something you sell a lot of and not sure how to ship it... buy that item from "retailer" and see how they ship it. We sell a good amount of mugs and china etc and we ordered some items from replacements.com ( they exclusively sell china and glass ware ) to see exactly how they ship items.

    hope that helps!

A couple months ago I sent a piece of China to my granddaughter - i used 'Easter grass' as part of the packing - that stuff you put at the bottom of an Easter basket....it worked like a charm.

After Easter local stores were selling off 'Easter items' at 75-90% off so picked up several packs of this fake 'grass' at 10 cents a pack.

You're going to need to pack each type differently. The key things are to ensure each item is padded, then protected and waterproof. One option you could do, given the wide range you're dealing with, is to get a quote from a fulfilment company as they will outline how they would pack each type. They ship goods as their job so should have it pretty dialled in.
