I've gone with Urbanload.com, they are ok, take a little while to ship though, never tried dropship design, though.

Ah! I used DD before and I had a bad experience with it.
Although I made money from them but not with their dropship
products but with the retail site that they are selling.

    Here's the list:
Profit margin is very slim, sell it on ebay and you'll be broke just for auction fees.
The checkout process is not users friendly
server is very slow due to overloading
you don't have access with the ftp.
expect a higher product returns/refunds specially on eletronics most of them are refurbished but on the description they're new.

I can go on in on in on with these... coz I went through it.

If your friend planning to go on dropshipping route then I will not hesitate to say DON'T. I rather promote Amazon products through affiliates than dropship stuff.

Just my 2 and a half cents...

        No problem

If your friend wants to sell physical products then
importing light bulk goods from China is a good option.
You can also talk to mall owners/managers in your area
and ask if they have stuff for liquidation. Usually they
always have it specially now that a lot of store owners
are living their business in various malls behind.

Yeah, worldwidebrands.com is the way to go. I have multiple ecommerce sites that drop ship and some of these sites were started 10 years ago. I even sold on ebay years ago using companies I found through these guys.

There are many drop ship sites that are not legit although they seem to be. The guys at world wide brands sort through the mess and only give you the legit companies. Not to mention they also have wholesale companies in their list.

If your friend is serious about their business they might want to consider worldwidebrands.com because it gives them access to quality companies and if I'm not mistaken they offer a lifetime membership to their info. It's a little costly if I remember but it will pay off in the long run.

          -Travis

P.S. They have free info towards the bottom of their site on dropshipping and how not to get scammed, etc. Your friend might find that useful.

I have used alibaba a few times- it's amazing what you can get from there. Lol put your blinkers on though otherwise it'll be hard to stay focussed on what you came for- you can get just about anything you can think of.

Be careful of people selling 'fakes' though- many won't tell you, you need to ask a lot of questions. If it seems to good to be true it usually is.

            Kim,

It's a process that you have to establish with the supplier. Here's how to start.

            1. First you have to identify the product that you want and focus on it as much as possible. Many supplier will offer you a gazillion of products that you don't even think exists. So be carefull and know what you want, do a thorough research first.

            2. Go and check alibaba and find the top 5 suppliers of the products you want to import. You must look for suppliers that are willing to engage or talk via phone, skype etc. Most of the legit suppliers can speak english but not all (do your due deligence) so be carefull, but you can weed them out.

            3. Now that you have prospective suppliers, it's time to test them one by one. Always require them to send you some samples of their products, 90% of these suppliers will be happy to send you samples some with conditions attached like you will pay for shipping or deposit x amount but some don't.

It is a long process but you really have to do it to avoid booboo later

            4. Now that you have the samples, make sure that you let them know (suppliers) about your assessment good or bad. This is your perfect time to negotiate for the price! Price may vary depending on your required quantity.

Some suppliers will offer you branding of the products. That's right! You can put your company name on the products ala PLR of course with additional cost but this is good if you want to go big.

Note: Some suppliers will only tell you the number of items. Let say you ordered 200 pcs of medium size teddy bear. keep in mind that these items are boxed items, each box might require huge volume. These 200 pcs of teddy bear might require 2 - 20 footer container bans What if you are just living in apartment where are you gonna put those stuff?

There's a lot more to consider like the custom stuff, taxes etc. I cannot speak for these things as it varies from countries or states where you live. So make sure you research those before you import.

Doba is a bit pricey for most of the items

Kim- If you want to import from China Alibaba and made-in-china (dot com) are the best portal to find suppliers, deal with verified suppliers only. keep in mind you need to order a minimum quantity on most items.

Dropship won't work from china mostly due to long postal time and poor quality and ofcourse fake items.

I would never recommend Alibaba. It's a huge pool of scammers you can't do anything about.

I use a website thats only available in Chinese, everything is priced at their economic prices, and more direct. I've purchased computers for $40 USD and then resold them for $800 USD before on eBay, purchased in bulk amounts. However, its impossible to purchase from this site without knowing someone in China who can send you the items, and if you know what you are doing, you can get huge discounts on shipping through EMS Airmail. With this, you could dropship each item you sell, but its better to just buy a bulk amount of something.

This is Really the best way, no middle men, and your purchases are based on the manufacturers economic prices. When I say economic prices, I don't just mean the conversion rate. Many items are sold in China for just a little bit more than they cost to produce, not the price jacked up by middle men who all need a cut.

Alibaba is biggest platform for China trade and as you can find good as well as bad guys by searching in Google, same here. Thats why I suggest to deal with verified or Gold suppliers as I never got any problem with any of them.

      Jason,

Through 3rd party suppliers yes, you could, but be carefull as majority of these are imitations some are OEM or (original equipment manufacturer,) manufactures products or components that are purchased by a purchasing company and retailed under the purchasing company's brand name.

You could buy directly from these big names itself if you requires big quantity but if you only require light bulk then it will cost you more.

The advantage of buying from these small players is that they can give you deep discounts even you only require small quantities. But again, you really need to keep on eye on the quality.

I have to disagree. I drop ship items from China Suppliers with no problem.

FYI: DVDs, and Video Games. Most of them are high copies. I found most of the suppliers are upfront about it.

Video Games for Wii, and Xbox will usually only work on cracked systems.

I spend a great deal of time on AB. I have made some great business relationships there. Not everyone is from China. "Smile" As a matter of fact I met my current JV partner there.

And yes it is true, the house is full of scammers, but once you know what questions to ask, and learn the ropes, it is easy to avoid being scammed.

Plus you can go to their forum, it is packed with supplier, buyer info.

Depending on the system, they are cheaper.

For instance NDS games cost around 7 - 8 dollars US.

I am not a gamer - don't know the exact method of how they crack the systems to make the games work.

Someone else might know the "technical aspect"

The sale of things such as Wii, Xbox, and other video games are very regulated by the companies that produce them, not just the manufacturers.

Even places like Walmart don't make much profit from systems and games. When I say don't make much, I mean, they may only make a dollar or two. Games and such whose prices are regulated by Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc are purchased and resold by places such as Walmart as way to generate traffic through their store. To be basic, you won't save any money by purchasing a bulk of 200 PS3's as opposed to buying 2 PS3's.

Alibaba isn't BAD, but not to sound too bold, I can usually find much better deals more directly in China. There are a couple manufactures, such as all of the "OEM" who sell in bulk for cheap to people in the west who make just pennies per item.

China has it's own little trading system thats pretty cool, but you have to be able to speak Chinese, read Chinese, purchase through a Chinese bank, and set up shipping for a discount.

And to whoever said Dropshipping would not work from China to the U.S. - the hell it wouldn't. I can purchase something in China and have it at my doorstep in 7 days or even less for 55% less than the average cost of shipping through EMS. I've sold many, even in BULK, items I didn't even own that when someone purchased from me, I've went through and purchased and had it sent to my customer and kept the difference for myself. Sometimes it was only $20, sometimes its been thousands.

Yea, even the manufactures dont make profit from gaming console. Their business model is to make profit for the games titles. All gaming console from china are fakes or extremely good fakes

The only legitimate dropshipping directory type of service I know of is World Wide Brands. I've done some business with them in the past. Though it is a bit on the pricey side $300 one time fee I think, but that should not be an issue for anyone trying to set up a serious business.

One I've come across more recently is SaleHoo, they are on clickbank. I don't have any personal experience with them, but they seem to be #2 on the market after World Wide Brands.

here is a few places you or your friend could try

    alibaba com
    goofbay com
    worldwidebrands com
    agros-clearance co uk
    drogba com

i would personally ask your friend to keep there eyes out for police auctions of siezed items rather then dropship,

in some cases if your friend does a lot research. you can find some niches which are high in demand(for example nintendo wii you could dropship some of the controllers or games for example and make profit!!!i did)

another thing is be carefull of international dropship such as china, worldwide brands are the best for screen out fraud and fake dropshippers but the company you mentioned i would tend to aviod, when i started in ebay a few years ago i was banned on a temp.basis because i tried the company and it took me 6 months and a lot of patience to get resloved back in 2003

on a whole i would aviod them ,

    hope that helps

Those inquiring about electronics, ESPECIALLY gaming systems, take it from someone who has been in the electronics retail business:

There is NO margin on computers, gaming systems, and VERY slim-to-none margin or anything that is an actual electronics component.

If you're talking ACCESSORIES, that is a different ballgame, with profit margins STARTING at 100%.

If giant retailers like Best Buy and Walmart can't make more than $1 (I joke you not) on a PS3, then what makes anybody think that we can? The electronics business is more about "solution selling" with accessories/service plans etc and that is where the money is made.

Audio equipment can have decent profits. High end Televisions carry huge profit. Appliances are not bad either... but as far as computers, gaming systems, and that sort of stuff, forget about it!
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1592820].message }}

Shoaib is correct on the electronics.

I've been using drop shippers for years (but not electronics). It serves me well

However selling on ebay using the drop ship companies most people know about has not worked well for me. The profit margins are just not there.

Worldwide brands is a great company but nothing stellar. Still if you want to sell drop-shipped items you really should have them on your side. I like them to find companies that I can find the little things most people pass up like accessories and buying close-out inventory.

The most profitable items to sell I have found are from small companies that ship their own products. These you have to find yourself and create a relationship with.

Finally ebay just plain sucks for selling most consumer goods. Have a niche website and sell from there. Use ebay to get customers and funnel them to your niche store. Post in related forums/blogs to get people to your store. Use PPC, but watch your expenses carefully.

There are a ton of other things you can do to utilize drop shippers to make a profit. It's not the best way to make a buck, but it's a cheap way to get started.

Hi guys, this is an area that I am very experienced in. I have been dropshipping for quite a few years now I can tell you that research is absolutely key in making a decision which suppliers you sign up with.

To make sure your supllier is reliable I would always check the following.

    1) Make sure they don't ask for payment by western union (very heavily used by scammers). Try and find one that uses Paypal.

    2) Make sure they have physical contact details (address and telephone number) published on their website.

    3) Do a whois search on their domain name and compare the address of the registrant to that published on the site. Make sure these matchup, if the address has been hidden then I would avoid them.

    4) Try to phone them and email them to test out their customer services (you need to know you can rely on them on times where there is an issue with an order), if they takes ages to answer or don't answer at all then avoid them. If they are located in China then I would try and avoid branded electrical goods or items of clothing from them. China is very good for unbranded items, but the risk of being sold fakes is very high.

    5) Once they have satisfied the other points, place a couple of test orders with them via paypal. You need to do this a few times as they may sent out your first order quickly in order to gain your trust, then not send out your second or third order.

    6) If they are based outside your country, make sure you're aware of any customs charges that may be payable by your customer when their order enters the country, as the onus to pay customs charges would be on them. Having said that items from abroad can still be significantly cheaper than that available in the UK or US.

There is a very useful forum specialising in dropshipping that I would always recommend and that I use very frequently (not an affiliate link):
    www.dropshipforum.co.uk

you can find dropshippers and advice for free on there.

    Hope this helps

If you want to dropship, you go about business the way actual businesses do it. You find a niche, you find suppliers in that niche, and you contact them with your EIN, corp name, and reseller cert. Then after you talk to them, you ask if they dropship. Most of them DO, but they just don't want to advertise it. I have a bunch of ecommerce stores and this is alwasy the way I do it.

I also import products from China and have products manufacturerd in Thailand. I have to call BS on what people are saying here. Shipping from China is expensive so you need to, not only have great margins, you need to have to sell at a price where you can make up that cost. I get top tiered rates from Fedex/UPS (tried USPS too) and it's just expensive to send a letter over there.

You can do dropshipping or light bulk I'm sure if you were really determined. But personally it's easier to just find a US dropshipper. You'll make more money, it's easier, and it's less of a headache.

I'm not a big fan of just buying random stuff from china because it's cheap. I say build a business and find an endless supply of products to sell.
I would agree with you that you don't want to purchase a dropship list as there are free resources, including the one I linked to earlier, where you can get reliable information.

Shipping from china is not always expensive if done via dropshipping, I now of at least two companies that offer either free shipping or around $3 for recorded delivery.

Most of the US dropshippers I've come across either don't ship outside of the US, or it's very difficult to work with them as they require a US reseller or tax id to register with them.

Have to be careful with dropshipping companies.

Back in 2001 that was one of the first things i got involved in before moving to affiliate marketing.

World wide brands is reputable, yet they have raised their entrance fee higher since back in 2001 when it was like $50 and even then you have to dig through the crap

There are a lot of middle parties involved out there. i.e

I join up to a site like worldwidebrands, then create my own membership site, acting like world wide brands and yet im taking a piece of each sale being made.

You want to get the direct company information, no in between men

Anyway Most top selling ebay sellers are not using drop shipping companies they are purchasing wholesale from usa and china based companies

World Wide Brands is a good choice. The site has a online directory of wholesalers, liquidators, and dropshippers. It also has a nice marketing tool/utility as well.

There is a very nice drop ship directory put together by the guys at Niche Blueprint...I have used that directory to source yoga related products for a small niche-based e-commerce site.

It is a good place to start, in some cases these are wholesalers and as volumes increase you can go directly to the manufacturer and cut out the middleman.
