Does anyone really make money drop shipping on eBay?

I have always made fairly good money selling on eBay by buying low and selling high. I keep seeing tons of info claiming you can make good money on eBay by drop shipping.

Does anyone here actually make good money or know of someone that does by drop shipping one up items on eBay?

Every drop shipping company I have checked out has been a bust. For example. You pay $5.00 for an item plus s&h to be drop shipped but it only sells for $2.50 on eBay.

The math never seems to add up. Please someone correct me on this and tell me I am just missing the boat on drop shipping. I would love to add more items to sell without needing to invest in more inventory.

You need to find a supplier in the same way you would if you had a physical shop. Once you've found a supplier with the products you want to re-sell, at a price that you can make a profit on - then arrange for them to dropship.

Salehoo will usually not give you good suppliers, you'll find their prices are the same if not more than eBay.

WorldWideBrands.com is the place to go - they filter their suppliers to make sure they are genuine.

      Rob,

Bro...drop shipping aint a business unto itself. I know...I'm a broken record. But I hate to see late night infomercials and slock mags continuing to turn drop shipping into some turn key biz in a box.

Here's the real deal...and I welcome one honest Warrior with integrity to tell me I'm wrong....cuz I aint...and this one aint up for discussion.

Drop Shipping is simply a way to sell a gimmick and have someone else fufill the order for you'se....you presell some widget...hope that you'se sell it for more then your "drop shipper" is charging you...and then you all happy cuz they ship it for you.

Those candles and other gimmicks SMC et al sells? LOL. Their idea of "wholesale"? LOL? LMAO!!!!! Their wholesale price is higher then the retail price on the street. And that's the truth!

That aint a biz...that's just convenience...one that comes with a hefty price. Because most every so-called drop shipping company is really a so-called wholesale company that uses "drop shipping" to drop the suckers dead in their tracks.

They prey on the suckers with words like wholesale and "in demand." Not true.

There is NOT one drop shipping company on the entire net promoting products...that I can't easily crush in terms of finding it cheaper...and I can get it drop shipped to boot!

And I wont even charge you a membership fee like they do...to give you'se this advice:

WHEN YOU FIND A PRODUCT YOU KNOW YOU CAN SELL..FOR A PROFIT....AND YOU WANT TO HAVE IT DROP SHIPPED FOR CONVENIENCE WHICH IS A GOOD THING......SIMPLY CONTACT THE MANUAFACTURER OF SAID PRODUCT DIRECTLY...CUT OUT MUTT AND JEFF...AND YOU NOT ONLY WILL ACCOMPLISH THEY SAME GOAL...YOU WILL GET A BETTER PRICE. I PROMISE YOU.

      AND YOU'LL MAKE MONEY.

Sweet screamin' mother of God.....! If you want to sell something...go and find the source...not some company pimping it.....20 ways from sunday.

      xxx Vegas Vince

The only way you can make money with drop shipping is if you found a profitable product. Stored it at home, Continue to sell items and have them shipped from a drop shipper directly. Why are you storing them at home? Because if the drop shipper runs out of the inventory, you can send something to your customer.

Dropshipping only works if the item is sent from a wholesale who is willing to drop ship. Low prices on eBay under $100 not very profitable, but over 100-200 you can make some $$$.

I don't sell on eBay any more as I am moving around the world and decided to put all my work into affiliate marketing, but if you needs some help, feel free to ask.

So far all the advice you have gotten has been correct and good. Drop Shipping as a key part of a business model works as long as you do your homework.

We have recently had some very nice success and we are a drop ship only site. Looking back, many of the decisions that I made early on have led to our success and back then I had a gut instinct that they would, but I really was not sure. Hindsight is 20/20 and I can see now that I made some good decisions and here is how this relates to your questions.

          1. Research - I spent months researching our market. eBay was my first thought. After researching the sales of my niche's products on eBay, I realized that there was no way I could make any money through that venue. I was stunned at the prices that I was finding. I know that some people are better negotiators then others but I also think some have less business sense and are going through efforts on eBay that are making such little profits that it is not worth it. Sure, if you have "The Thing" that everybody wants and only you have, then sure, but how often does that happen?

          2. The Product - During my research, I found that everyone online was selling the same brand of the type of product that I was considering selling. My dad was a maverick and always told me "Do what the other guy won't". He died broke and early, but I guess genetically I have had no choice, because it is how I think as well. Anyway, I watched as a dozen of my competitors all fought over the same sale.

So, I found a similar but higher-end product with a great brand name to represent. I can't begin to compete with my competition on price, and we all know that most of eBay is about PRICE. We opted to build our own site and stay away from ebay. We advertise on most of the popular shopping comparison sites and this has worked great.

          3. I don't want every customer - We decided through our brand choice and our philosophy that we really did not want every one of our competitors customers. We focused on people who understood VALUE over PRICE. Once our customer has decided that even though we may be as much as 25% higher, they are better off with our brand and our service, our job is done. Even in this economy, there are those that are wired t chose value.

Back to Drop Shipping. The nice part about finding a manufacturer or distributor and forming an alliance is that once you do start doing sizable business, you then have the power to negotiate better prices and services and from that, margins will increase.

Our vendor has stuck with us for months and has been a partner in our business with thier support. We have been very fortunate in that regard. But, in the last couple of months, our business has gone up dramatically and we are not processing multiple orders daily and $3500 - $4500 orders are not uncommon. Now, we are hero's in the eyes and balance sheet of our supplier and they are wanting to help us more. It is how it works.

To Close - Drop Shipping can work. Find a niche. Get an edge. Separate yourself from the Pack (do what the other guy won't do)

          Good Luck
          Jay

I've looked into dropshipping before and found the same problem. I haven't tried yet but contacting suppliers directly through offline means and trying to negotiate a deal with them to dropship seems to be the only way to get the best prices.

Drop shipping definitely works if you have a supplier selling unique products at cheapest prices...

Do not expect success right away until you earn a good reputation on eBay as a Seller...

Once you reach the level of trusted seller or best rated seller, you will have no problems delivering unique products at competitive prices creating a win win scenario for both...

Do you think a supplier will be happy selling 1000 products to one seller instead of selling 100000 to other sellers?

I just don't understand how people expect to sell unique products from companies that are looking to sell their products to as many vendors as possible. They have to sell high volume for their cheap products. How do you think they are going to make money themselves?

The only way to sell unique products: create, build your own products. Otherwise you will be selling mass produced stuff.
