Best and Worst ECommerce Website Solutions

Ok, I couldn't find a thread on this although I am sure some have been talked about before. So the basic question is what have people found to be the Best and Worst ECommerce Sites out there. A lot may be subjective to peoples opinions I suppose so try to back it up with comments.
Things like

Initial Cost,
Ongoing Cost (monthly or fees)
Customer service,
Ease of use,
Design etc

are all things that will vary a lot. Often these things will be the difference between a average site and a great site.

I'm sure there are tons out there so if you have had any experience with some please respond to help others that are looking.

I will make a reply to this post that I will list those mentioned and maybe we can come up with a rating system, say score out of 10 for each of the things I mentioned above. Maybe there are more categories I haven't thought of, let me know if there is.

    Its sort of a nebulous question as different ecommerce solutions apply to different markets.

    For example the most popular is Paypal simply because of the volume of users.

    Different countries have their own systems specific to their region. For example Paymate is very popular in Australia.

    Some do digital, some do tangibles some do both so depending on what you are selling will depend on the system you use.

      Mmmm...okay, I was thinking more on the lines of the sites that are set up like shopping sites, not so much just on the payment side of things. Maybe I'm calling it the wrong thing.

      Mmmmhaven't heard of Paymate and I'm in Australia...lol

        I've tried a few ecommerce solutions and the one I recommend is Big Commerce, or it's paid version, Interspire shopping cart. These shopping carts are designed from a marketing viewpoint, to make the experience as user-friendly as possible for the shopper, and also have great SEO features 'out of the box'. Aaron Wall, the SEO expert, was involved in helping develop them.

      I just built this site using Joomla & Virtuemart, and it has the Quantum Gateway upgrade to allow CDGCommerce as the merchant. I think this is ideal. Style, ease of product uploads (in csv format), & functionality. Not to mention my client was very pleased.

      Initial Cost, (minimal as its open source installation in fantastico)
      Ongoing Cost (monthly or fees) (I use hostgator and am out the door for less than $10/mo)
      Customer service, (I highly recommend hostgator, Joomla has a community also)
      Ease of use, (There is definitely a learning curve)
      Design etc (the results speak for themselves)
