How in the World do you rewrite 5000 product descriptions for an Ecommerce site?

It would be fine if they were different products. But, they are basically the same items in different sizes.

I wonder if I could just add Spanish to the description if that would be enough.

Anyway, the reason I have to change the descriptoins is because the store is loaded with a feed from the manufacturer. So, everyone is just using the same content. But the big thing is most all the content is the same across the site, with just the size being different.

How do you reword the same item 500 times?

I've seen it done for this situation. The company hired someone with very fast fingers.

hmm..Fiver or Mechanical Turk comes to mind, hire several different people to each write a hand full of descriptions, should give you unique content.

In my opinion, there's no other option but to outsource the job. It can save you lots of time in the fraction of the cost.

I would probably use MTurk for this. Crowdsourcing seems like the way to go on a project like this. You can get hundreds of people to each do a chunk of the work. Because you have many different people working on them the product descriptions will not all read the same.

Depends on how much you have budgeted for this - Getting unique content for each product would be the way to go, but also be very costly.

What you could do, Is get a unique article / content / description writing for each type of product (not each size / color / variation) and run that though a content spinner, while it will not by optimum, it would get better results then just leaving it as is.

If you have good programmers, you could ensure that the uniqueness of each product is in the articles as well - like color/size/etc.

      .
I hate the idea of using an article spinner...EVER. But, this might work. I have Article Marketing Robot, or something like that. It has a great spinner in it. I might make the long descriptions in the 250-300 word range to allow for more possible versions. With Magento, the short Description will suffice, so I am not worried about losing visitors due to long descriptions, which appear below the fold, anyway.

I am going to attempt this with batches of 200. Then write another piece of unique content and spin it 200 times. I will see how this works.

      Thanks!!!

Static or dynamic pages? If the former, UltraEdit and "Find and Replace."

Yes, it could be that simple.

    First off...

Are you affiliating with the manufacturer or is your site the end result. Does the customer buy the item off of your site and send you the money.

If that is the case, why have all the products, why not just have an options form to input what size they need?

Furthermore, if your are linking to an advertiser, do they have a sizing option.

I've had feed over 1,000 products, but really it's 1,000 options, but 50 products, and on those product pages the person can fill out the options.

I've done it (and do it) for a company that sells a lot of similar products (blood pressure cuffs of various shapes and models; electric blankets all of a different model). Just have to be creative about what you're saying and make it appealing to a reader.

Instead of Spanish, couldn't you simply add a few relevant English sentences at the beginning of each text, and maybe a few more in the middle or at the end? Have different versions for each sentence and combine them randomly. You just got yourself at least slightly different content for each description.

And that can't be hard to code...
