Best alternatives to paypal for ecommerce?

Hey Warriors,

I am currently running an ecommerce site that sells my services, and I use paypal shopping cart exclusively. This is getting to be a pain because of all the associated fees and the general problems associated with using paypal.

So I was thinking about adding some more options to the site, but I am not sure where to start. I would prefer a system that deposits directly to my bank account with minimal fees. Any suggestions or recommendations? I've seen lots of options around but I'm not sure what to trust.

Long term your best bet will probably be to get your own merchant account to process transactions. There are a ton of them out there, however PowerPay is a good one that works with internet marketers.

Also you could go with 2checkout. It's fast to get set up with and taking payments, but it does have higher fees.

My preference would be a merchant account, it deposits daily into your bank account and is a standard way of accepting payments that everyone is accustomed to.

I agree, merchant account all the way. If you have an issue getting a merchant account, there are other PayPal-like services. But, those leave me with the same question you have... which one is good? I have heard just as many horror stories about PayPal alternatives as I've heard regarding PayPal itself.

I have personally used "2Checkout" in one of my projects I got involved and I never had a problem. Paypal can surely be a pain in the neck...

2Checkout is the best solution. You may try Plimus as an alternative for 2Checkout.

    Kyle,

I'd definitely recommend getting a merchant account. However, you do need a registered business first. I have both PayPal and merchant account (Authorize.net) on my ecommerce store (I sell fitness products rather than services) and I find the vast majority of people prefer to pay with their CC.

Also, with my business PayPal account it can take up to 5 business days to withdraw funds from PayPal to my business account whereas, it's just 24 hours (usually overnight) to receive funds from my merchant account to my business account.

Cash flow can be a real problem for online retailers so getting your money as quickly as possible is a must have and a merchant account beats PayPal hands down on this.

    Hey warrior,

I have a interesting question that I want to ask for help about 2checkout.

What is the difference between this 2 sites? Are they the same?

    2CO.com
    2Checkout.com

    Thank you so much.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, from what I can tell authorize.net is probably the best long-term solution, looks like I'll have to go through the process of registering a business (any advice on that?). I'll give 2checkout a look as well.

Has anyone used the services of fastspring or moneybooker? They seem to be getting good reviews.

I would seriously like to replace pp as my main ecom system.

      Thanks!

Stay the F away from Moneybookers. I just tried today to make a purchase through them as a first-time user, and the only way for me to complete the purchase is by receiving an international text from London, England which won't get through to my carrier (Verizon) even though I have no international texting restrictions.

So there's no way to use the service as a U.S. consumer unless you already have a pre-verified account.

(p.s. they're about to nominated for my bull**** of the year award...)
