its a tough competition out there and many many companies offer next day delivery which cant be beaten. Customers tend to shop online thinking they are going to get the goods in the next day or two

Depending what the products is and if its big and needs large delivery then 15days will be acceptable but if its small items that are sold across the competition for next day del, you might struggle.

    what products are they?

Id take instant payment but clearly advise its 15 days. You might see a increase in bounce rates though if you have a website or little custom on ebay due to delivery

If thats what you need to do to get started thats fine....then as you work to get a better supplier or bigger you can change that...just be upgront with the timeframe....sure there are next day delivery etc...but you can still compete with your time frame...

I'd stay far, FAR away from ebay as a seller these days.

I stopped selling on there years ago, when they made their policy changes. Its just too unfair for sellers now.

Competition on eBay these days is very tough, after you've paid ebay/paypal fees you are left with a slim profit margin. If (very big if) you can find a dependable supplier with rock bottom wholesale pricing, buy direct from manufacturer or source good liquidation stock you are on a hiding to nothing.

Back in the day the little guy could still make a buck on eBay but depending on what you're selling and with all the big retailers now selling on eBay your chances are slim.

    To your question:
Depending on dropshippers is risky, any problems with delivery or quality and your feedback will suffer. Bad feedback scores and you will be punished by eBay and people are less likely to buy from you...

This is not too long if majority of your shipments are international orders. I am based outside the USA and majority of my buyers are from USA and UK, there has been times when my buyers had to wait more than 30-days to receive their parcel! and yet, still I managed to receive a 5.0/5.0 Positive feedback from them.

    How do i do it?
The trick to this is offer free-shipment! Add the cost of shipment to item-cost. Communicate regularly with buyers, when running business on a large scale this can be difficult but you can still do it if you have saved message templates, which you just copy paste into message boxes and send.

Like when first an item gets sold, they get a message and when the item is shipped they get a message, reminding them that the item will take more than 15-days.

So, yes. You shouldn't have problems with buyers waiting for more than 15-days provided that you make them understand.

As long as the delivery time is stated in your description,
You communicate with your customers effectively,
Then it shouldn't be a problem.

If you are selling to US based customers, then I think 15 days is to long. Unless your product is rare and can only be bought from overseas.

Either way, just clearly state in your description that it will take 15 days to ship and hope for the best. But if you have any significant competition then I think you might have a hard time getting a lot of sales.

I don't dropship and never would. I like the product in my hands and I like to ship ASAP after a sale.

always under-promise and over-deliver. Tell buyers that it will be 15-20 business days. This way, they will be ecstatic when it comes in after 15 days and still acceptant of the fact that it could take slightly longer. Even better, if they get it after 10 business days then you're their favorite seller ever and they love you!
Once you say 15 days for sure then it better be there by that time or people won't be happy with each passing day.

Also keep in mind what others have posted on this thread about eBay's saturated market and new policies. Make sure that this is your best avenue!

    Best of luck to you!

i have sold items from dropshippers with 10 - 20 day delivery times,, go try it and watch your feedback go kapuuuuuuuuuuut.

people get po'd and if people find out you are using dropshippers they will post in your feedback that you are a MIDDLEMAN and guess what ebay will never remove your bad feedback

People click buy it now for that reason. They want it now. If other competitors are offering the same thing for relatively the same price, I would envision having difficulty with your feedback in the terms of: Slow delivery etc.. You might be able to make it work, but 15 days is a difficult pull. Good luck either way.

I think the biggest problem is then you sell something and it is out of stock.

Do not sell anything on eBay. Especially when you are a new seller and wants to sell vero products, you will get suspended.

Yeah, with that shipping time you're going to get bad feedback no matter what you say upfront. For example I recently had a gal buy something and I shipped it out the next day priority to her Pay Pal address as promised. 3 days later I get an email saying she had moved and forgot to update her Pay Pal address. Tracking showed indeed the package was being held because it was undeliverable half way across the country. I asked her if she would like a refund or like for me to reship the item once it was returned to me. I suggested she take the refund because it would be likely 5 or more business days until I received it back and then I'd have to take it home and redo the shipping label. She insisted that I reship the item. (Note: I was willing to eat the duplicate shipping costs for something that was entirely her mistake)

So I did as she instructed, waited for the item to come back and exactly 1 day later she emailed me asking where her stuff was. I had to explain look I haven't even received the item back yet as it has only been a day. Again, I suggested she take a refund again and again she insisted on the item. After two more days of demanding I ship the item every day like clockwork and then the third day suggesting I was trying to rip her off even though the tracking number showed exactly where the item was at any given time I just issued her a refund and told her she wasn't going to be getting the item. I returned her payment before telling her I wasn't going to ship it. The bottom line is at eBay often the buyer's expectations are unrealistic and unfortunately eBay has actually encouraged this sort of belief. If you know going in your looking at a 15 day window you're better off not doing it IMO plus the way eBay itself rates sellers now you're going to get wacked by eBay regardless of what your customers do on your shipping times and your listings are going to be difficult to find by prospective buyers.

just thought id chip in here because of people talking about profit margins and so on, yes price is a big factor as a customer but so is the buying experience, there are so many sellers on ebay who couldnt give two hoots about their customer so long as the money is pouring in. you dont have to slash your item prices (and therefore profit margin) to match theirs but look after your customers, follow up on their purchases a short while after, show that you care about them and were glad for their custom, it does pay off. People are still loyal...

You have to change the item location from your current location to the current location of the item. This deters a lot of buyers.

You'll eventually be the death of bad feedback. People simply dont like to wait 15-20 business days for an item, even if you make it clear in the description. People don't even like waiting 5 business days. Go check out the feedback from large sellers from Hong Kong that sell super cheap items like an iPod fitness band for 89 cents with free shipping.

Also, eBay and PayPal don't like working with sellers who dont have the item on hand.

I would personally advise stay away from dropshipping! This leads to your supplier having full control of delivery times meaning many customers could get upset, resulting in poor DSRs.

I tried drop-shipping on eBay after I first started in IM. Got burnt a lot. If you have a killer drop-shipping source that no one else has (very very unlikely when it comes to eBay) then best of luck.

Fifteen days is way too long. Buyers will contact you on a daily basis requesting an update on their purchases. Buy in bulk, have the items shipped to you, and then mail them to your customers.

This is the best way to do it... But where and how do you all find stuff to sell on eBay that you can make money on that is not saturated already?
