How To Find Wholesale Dealers

Hi,

I am earning some decent money with hair straighteners as an affiliate.. However, if I can find a wholesaler and set up some deal with them I will be earning more as a webshop than as an affilate (I am just getting 10% on each sale and still make $3000 a month)..

Only there's just one problem: how can I find a wholesaler, because some of my competitors aren't big players - they are just like me!

If someone can give me some tips on how to find wholesalers, or if there is a place where all wholesalers are listed, I would appreciate your help!

If you want to help me out -- I am searching for a Farouk Chi hair straightener wholesaler!

Best regards,
Goath

I would simply use google. There are other sites like salehoo who promise to help you find wholesale sites but do not believe all of your wholesale needs can be found through google. Use QUOTES to find your wholesale. E.g. "Nike Shoe Wholesale" This is how I found my wholesale.

I would personally use linkedin, You can find some people on there also you can try sites like aliexpress or alibaba.

Just make sure you watch out for scammers they are everywhere

I would contact product manufacturers, a lot of them have official distributor lists (wholesalers). Some of them have a minium order though, so that is what you really need to be prepared for.

Stay away from DHGate, a member from another forum is in a lot of legal trouble for importing specifically hair straighteners from China and I'm pretty sure he said he got them from DHGate and the "supplier" (which is actually a middleman, like 99% of DHGate and Alibaba) said they were legitimate.

        To the OP:

Call 1-800-237-9175 ask for your nearest distributor and call them up and begin to haggle for a low price that meets their lowest MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) shoot for 30% lower than what they are asking for and expect 15% or 10%. Less than 10% I wouldn't even bother as there are people online probably selling this at a 10% bulk quantity discount, and on eBay, that's your profit being consumed by fees and you won't be able to compete unless you are alright with $1.00 profit or something.

Yes DHgate sells counterfeit items for sure. I have ordered from them and received bunk products. Pocket knives were the item i ordered but i'm sure there are all sorts of fakes coming out of them. Locally here there was a store selling products that was shutdown for fakes....DHGATE again. They are just bad news.

But the question arises, What type of products were they? When any authority with licensing and inspections including CUSTOMS comes knocking they are ordered from a company that is having major issues I.e. Timberland, NIKE, Tru Religion etc. When it comes to hair straighteners it is less regulated because their are. o grounds to stand on saying this is fake especially when it's a type of product much less a name and even still brand names that are replica can still squeeze in as long as their is not a sole order of that certain brand and also if that brand has spent a boatload of cash to combat the counterfeiters.A company like Mac has just. ow really clamped down on this. it for years they were getting swamped by counterfeit pirates!

I wish I could "like" posts in WF because this is the best common sense response. Everyone asks a bunch of questions here that they could just google.

I suggest you also try searching for: white label "hair straightener"

You could have your own brand of device and solutions,as well as a broader line of hair and cosmetics products made for you in what amounts to just slapping your own label on pre-designed products.

Alibaba and dhgate are good sources. But I like Alibaba because you can find more manufacturers and bypass middle mans.

First of all you can’t get product with brand name from china. They are all fakes.

So you need to find a product with unknown or without brand name and resell it locally. This is what I do on eBay and this is what most of online sellers do.

You can learn about this process from this youtube video:

I'd think for this type of product you would be better off looking off looking locally first. Every geographic area has numerous hair salons. Also at least here in the U.S. these salons are supplied by wholesalers with local warehouses in much the way restaurants are supplied by their wholesalers. Next time you get your hair cut ask your local stylist where they get their supplies I am sure they would be happy to tell you.

Alibaba and DHGate are platforms for suppliers and wholesalers to advertise, I may be wrong but I do not think either company actually wholesales any products.

The responsibility for due diligence still falls upon you the buyer.

One source that I have not seen mentioned here is GlobalSources.com and again, they are not an actual source of supply, they are a service provider to manufacturers and wholesalers. They have been in business for over 40 years and do perform background checks on all of their advertisers and trade show participants.

Needless to say, even with their background check, it does not alleviate your personal responsibility of due diligence on a potential supplier before exchanging any funds for products.

Anything that comes from China carries a high risk of being bootleg, no matter what site you order from.

Hate to quote an old saying but "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Keep doing what you are doing, then call the companies yourself, and talk to sales about buying in bulk and lowering your cost....

you have two options really, its OK saying that you want to start running a business selling hair straightners as you think you will earn 50% more than what you currently do, but belive me there is a lot of difference between being a affiliate and actually running the business on a day to day basis.

With all the time and effort not including all the overheads you will incur I would say stick with what you are currently doing you will probally earn more and it will be a lot less hassle, why don't you ask them for a bigger commision and drive more traffic there?

If you really want to go down the physical stock route then Alibaba is your key, goto China and produce it there. if you decide to go through wholesalers and sell branded products then your margins after everything will not be much higher than 10% trust me.

Continue you with what youre doing a build on it, its not worth I have been there myself.

DHGate, AliBaba there you can find.
Of course others will say this , "Stay away from ... bla bla bla ..."

But believe me, it just like ebay and even WF. Lot of gold there, but there's also shark (read : scammer) waiting their bait.

You need to do a little research, before jump to buy products from there.
It's not DHGate/AliBaba is bad, it's because people there are bad.

And good thing is, there are good people there too.

Here are some simple little tip.
    1. find seller with feedback. Don't risk your money with new seller
    2. buy sample. Buy few quantity, to check the quality. You don't want your customer turn away from you just because of 1 clumsy product.
    3. don't buy in bulk until you already have few transactions with the seller.
    4. listen to your heart. I don't know how to explain this, but there is sometime our heart say stop, but we still doing it and the bad thing happen. So, use your heart.

My say, All the best .... tell you what, nowadays, almost EVERYTHING you can dropship.

ps : my best dropship source >>> ebay

    Hi Goath,

So you are driving traffic that is directly responsible for $30k per month in hair straightener sales?

    Here are my immediate thoughts:
    - What are your merchants conversion rates? Can you replicate them with your own store? The same traffic to a lower converting store could mean less $$ in your pocket even with higher margins.
    - Like others have mentioned it will take more effort (time). Customer service, order processing etc. You can outsource this obviously but you still need to project manage it all.
    - Finding a wholesaler should be easy, just contact the manufacturer. I highly recommend that you negotiate a drop ship arrangement (even at a higher cost). Your time is important - I imagine packing/shipping 200-300 hair straighteners a month would be very time consuming.
    - You have leverage here. Try asking for a higher % commission. Don't undervalue your business, you're providing them with $360,000 in revenue each year.
    - Opportunity cost. If you do go ahead with your own ecommerce store, make sure it makes enough money for it to be worth your time. If you can spend the same amount of time promoting another product as an affiliate and make more money, then maybe you should do that.

Anyway hopefully that is of some help!

Go and bad in all sources used for research but Alibaba and Google are the best places to start. You want to find out who the manufacturers are of the products that you want to sell. If they are a major name brand then you will probably have to deal with a distributor but you will want to find a large distributor of a manufacturer.

If the product line is small or not a major brand then you want to deal with them directly, definitely. That is the best case senario.

In summary get as close as possible to the manufacturer. You can find that information by searching. Sometimes you have to look between the lines.

    I wish you much success.
