Hey warriors,

Haven't had too much time to dedicate to this venture of mine. I'm selling some belts that I have, people love them. I want to get the site looking good, working good, and making sales.

The site is candybelts.com

Any suggestion would be great, I was thinking...
  • Template suggestions, not crazy about the current one, free is good
  • keyword suggestions
  • Issue with the shopping cart and payment setup i can't figure out
  • Layout suggestions
  • Marketing suggestions
  • Sales copy or call to action suggestions
Any help would be great guys. Finally want to "get this show on the road"... i mean "web"...

I can't deal with many of your questions. I'm here to ask the same kind of question as you! But I can tell that you need an about page. It looks to me like you have one product available in six colors. I only looked at the black and the white, and that briefly, but they appeared to have the same description. And I don't get what your product has to do with candy!

If you are displaying your entire product line, the layout looks fine to me.

I also noticed a typo in your sidebar:

The most innovative, quality-made and trendy silicone belts are right here for you at CandtBelts.com.

      Cash89,
I agree with you that the template is not very appealing. The site is a bit confusing and I had to scroll to the right to see the entire portion of the product description so this need to be fixed. There is no reason for scrolling.

Also I try to purchase a belt but got stuck on the shipping selection. I chose the country and state (btw your text said to pick a ZIP code but the drop down lists only states) and never was able to go to the next step.

You need to check this ASAP. You may be losing sales because of this!

I notice that you are using WordPress. Did you consider using a more robust shopping cart (I like Opencart). or another eCommerce plugin for WordPress?

I can't really figure out what the belt looks like. I think you should add some pictures of the whole belt instead of just the buckle. I also had to scroll to the right to see the words.

      Hi Cash89

Have you looked at the Responsive theme it's a clean looking theme and free.

I would do each belt as a separate post and write a different description about each one.

You need more pages - About, Contact Us.

WordPress is a fantastic platform and CMS, I build sites on it but it's not best for eCommerce.

If you are going to stick with WordPress get some widgets on it and a side menu bar.

If I can help any more feel free to ask .

Yes, I agree with these suggestions....... moreover, at a glance collection of other products at side bar would add its appeal more if you can do so.

I agree with Brittney. More pics would be better. And a nice vid if you can swing it.

As far as econmerce platforms, I like woocommerce.

And I would look for a premium theme. You can find them for a pretty low price and they make all the difference.

And marketing: I would have to look into your market a little more. How are you currently selling your belts?

I just finished a site with woocommerce. Pm me if you'd like me to send you the link.

"More details" contain the same thing for all belts. Might as well remove it and put that information on the main page with the pictures of the belt. The layout is fine for starters.

While you are thinking about a major rebuild at least find a way to get rid of the horizioontal scroll bar on your main display area. I'm also concerned about the product name. I assumed a candy bely was made from candy, and I bet I'm not alone.

People who bought this also bought: Crocs.

Those things look hideous. That said, people have terrible fashion sense! Try showing some pictures of some sexy ladies and suave fellows wearing the belts?

Doesn't look very professional. I put a belt in my cart and it didn't calculate the shipping and didn't have any way to actually buy ... Need a different theme. If you want a free theme, Woo Themes have some great Woo Commerce free themes. I don't know who your payment gateway is, but I'm sure they have an extension (that you would have to buy for whatever payment gateway you're using. Paypal is built in to Woo Commerce, but there's many other payment options available through the extensions.

I think you should change the display of your site to make it more appealing. The picture of your products should be showcase in a shiny way, yet your site has to clear and simple to lead people to exactly what they are looking for.
I think an online shop should have a slider in the homepage to catch the customers' eyes.
Here are some good example for e-commerce site, you can take a look to gain some cool ideas for site.
    Boutique WordPress Theme
    StoreBox Wordpress Theme
Mercor wordpress theme - ecommerce site

I just want to firstly say great work on having a go here. The only way to learn is to try so congrats on making those steps.

I think the recommendations on this thread in relation to your website are great but I'm just not sure about the product. Here are some of my immediate thoughts:

How many people are looking for candy belts online?
What is the profit margin since they are <$20?
How many belts do you need to sell?

You may already have your market worked out, but I think even a great website wouldn't change the outcome of this site as I would imagine it would be difficult to get targeted traffic. Just some food for thought, I'd love for you to prove me wrong though

stop whatever your doing now. Get a proper ecommerce platform. Personally i recommend shopify or bigcommerce. Some like Magento or Prestoshop. Either on of this is better than what your using.

Your site currently is screaming "amateur". I don't think i will get my product shipped looking at the site. In eCommerce, you are judged by how your store looks. Platforms right now are very affordable, so theres not reason not to look like the real thing.

If you are offering different sizes, you should have size attributes so the customer can select their size. Also the picture is not appealing enough to sell it. Step outside yourself from the designing side and make yourself the customer. What would you want to see as the customer? Maybe wrapped around a waist? the full length picture? Never make the customer scroll from side to side. All content should fit in your page width. The site makes me feel like I am buying from a fly by night company or from a very small company. The beauty of the internet, is your website can make your business look as big as the big guys sometimes even bigger. My opinion is to go to different belt selling sites and note what you like and don't like, would you buy from them, why or why not? Then create your site based around your notes. Zencart is an awesome start for free ecommerce. I have built a few successful sites with that, only costing time, a domain name and hosting.

It's always better to go with a theme. There are CMS like Magento, Prestoshop, bigcommerce or others. But there are not ideal for new users as they'd struggle first. You can go with word press as it is easier.

the words on the left bar are getting ignored. put sub-titles, change it up a bit with bold and other font styles if you can.

I would never EVER trust my store and data to BigCommerce. (Based on two years of dealing with that company as a customer.)

I agree with some of the other comments though, that the design isn't a high converting one. The scrolling section is just unnecessary.

There should be more connection between the name and the belts. I'd make some sort of logo or header image of several of the belts laid out together with bight colored candy around them to reinforce the connection.

The left hand text is dull and too visually dense, or not well enough formatted. You should try to write something a bit catchier if you can.

I actually like the design but I agree with what others have said. It doesn't look professional enough for a selling website at the moment.

If you like that template, you may want to add a few more pages so that you can personalise it and make it feel less sterile.

When I go to checkout, there is no where to input or select a zip code and the shipping doesn't calculate. And there's also no way to actually check out.

Why not use magento or opencart?

It'd be much easier for you to setup and would look much more professional.
