Listen there's no way around this, and if there is it's quite hard but I'll tell you how to do it for free.

Know what a trade show is? Look it up, you can go to these in major cities, set yourself up in a hotel, and find countless booths of amazing products that all have wholesale catalogs. You can often make over 100% markup on these (with my rave supplies site, my markup is over 300%).

I go to Vegas, NYC, and Dallas a few times a year and it's all a write off. Business expense. The ASD trade show in Vegas is UNBEATABLE, and the hotel (don't go getting a villa or some crap like that, get a normal room), and the plane ticket are all written off, just give your records to your accountant.

Anyway, know those 4 oz bottles of glow in the dark pastel body paint? Yeah I sell em for 3.99 each, I pay 0.19 per unit.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH DROPSHIPPING

You won't make near as much money, trust me.

PS If you lose your ass at the casino that's on you, not the taxman...trust me

I don't think drop shipping is a waste of time at all. I have several stores drop shipping and margins vary from 30%-100%. Processing orders takes a few minutes and with items ranging from $20 to $400 some orders make a bit and some a lot. I can also run the business from anywhere in the world. It works for me but it's certainly not the only way to sell online.

I can appreciate you probably have a fairly successful business by stocking it yourself which is great if it works for you, and like you mentioned, massive margins are one of the good things.

I really like your idea of visiting trade shows though. Awesome for ideas and sourcing products.

Where do you stock all of your produce? And how do you ship/post everything out to everyone?

Yeah I don't agree. Dropshipping, if done right, is very profitable. My margins are huge. I usually don't even sell a product unless I can at least mark it up 40% and I don't mess around with products under $50 usually. In fact the $500-1200 mark is the best for me. It's all about getting a good connection with good companies (mainly manufacturers) and building from there. Sure I could probably do more if I bought truckloads of wholesale and stocked them in a warehouse but I would also have to do more work and stock product. It's just not as sweet of a deal. If you use sites like Doba you will never be able to do well dropshipping.

I do like the trade show idea though. I would use it to set up drop shipping agreements. You would probably have to target higher priced items as those companies probably wouldn't want to drop ship one or two cans of body paint at $3.99. Then again, never hurts to ask right?

Anyway, that's just me. If it's working for you I'm happy for you. Keep scaling it up and build yourself an empire!

I may have been a little extreme in saying that it's a waste of time, I'm actually starting another website that's basically an online head shop and will be dropshipping for modest 30-40% margins, not expecting it to be as successful as my rave supplies but it'll be a lot of fun, dealing with what I love.

I only attend trade shows a few times a year, I look for "Shut up and take my money!" products because, well, they're great sellers.
