They are just reselling PRWeb it looks like, I would stay away from anything Vocus related until they improve their credibility.

If I were going to do some kind of press release I would work directly with the distribution point, PR News Wire is the absolute best in the industry and a release costs like $14 more than the one you linked.

Absolutely. Great way to get your website some exposure and a bunch of links from reputable sites.

I personally use PRWeb advanced package which gets a lot of reach. It's expensive but well worth it IMHO.

If you're going to buy a PR package I would HIGHLY recommend going to elance, freelancer, odesk, or whatever preferred outsourcing site you use and posting a press release project (make sure you know exactly what you want before you post the job, you can even use the description of what the company in the link you posted provides).

Just be sure to sort your project bids by user rating and really read through them before you purchase from someone. You will end up saving yourself a lot of $$$.

Sorry but there is nothing better than PRweb if you really have something newsworthy.

If you're looking for spammy links, you can try outsourcing but you're not going to get the same exposure than with PRweb. it costs a grip of money though with packages at $3k a year and single release costing around $200.

I write our press releases myself, there is no one that knows my site and the direction I am heading better than me.

It's not hard to get featured in yahoo and google either. Links from those two sites are way more powerful than hundreds of coolprsite.org ones

Couldn't agree more!! I use the $200 advanced release and the exposure it gets is crazy. You can't beat links from high authority sites like Yahoo and many news sites with your chosen anchor text too!

So far I have been writing them myself but am in the process of outsourcing it for the first time - always moving myself away from the day to day stuff. I'm not using a trashy fiverr gig either. I've hired a professional writer and it's going to cost just shy of $50 to get it written. If i remember I'll post back here with how it all goes.

Sending a release that shows why your store is newsworthy to the right people in your industry, on the other hand, can result in great benefits.
I agree you need something to write about, but you can really write about anything. Some ideas for press releases:

      - Store launch
      - Milestones - 1 year birthday/bigger product range
      - Improvements - better customer service/new facilities
      - Public relations - charity support/donations/giving back to community
      - New product line/new brand/more products/bigger range
      - Promotional like bonuses/specials/sales/giveaways/competitions/special offers

Anything relevant will be fine! Just imagine if the big media companies only published 'newsworthy' content, there would be only 10% of the content there is today!

How is this working out for you, are you still submitting releases through PRweb? Also, do you seem to get a better long term SEO benefit or conversions right away for a few days with the exposure?

Yep still use PrWeb. The main purpose is for SEO, it doesn't generate any noticeable increase in sales from people reading the release (mainly because I mostly sell in AU and the content is distributed in the US).

          Here are two case studies:

In both cases I get about 1000 words written for the target page. Make sure titles, url etc have target keyword in them. Write a 700+ word press release and distribute via PRWeb advance package. Both sites had no SEO done before and no ranking in top 100.

          Results after 2 months:

          Site #1
Keyword competition 'High' in Google Keyword Tool
          Search volume > 10k p/month

          Google.com - Page 1 Rank 8
          Google.com.au - Page 1 Rank 1

          SIte #2
Keyword competition Low' in Google Keyword Tool
          Search volume < 1k p/month

          Google.com - Page 1 Rank 6
          Google.com.au - Page 1 Rank 5

I haven't had personal experience with Press Releases, but I can tell you that it depends greatly on your field or niche. As my site focuses on adult related items, it is definitely not for me. Another instance in which is may not make sense is if you are in a very competitive niche, or even a very small niche. If you are offering something new or adding a lot of value to a potential customer, I could see spending the money on PRweb. The media attention will show your value added service/product, rather than just announcing a new website... Ideally.

If you want a press release written, you can definitely use Fiverr. You can then submit it yourself to many places, or again hire somebody to do it for you. Explore Fiverr, as it is a great, affordable place to outsource work!

If you are going to invest the money into PR web's packages, you want to make sure you pay more than a fiver on fiver!

After all you are sending a press release out there, make sure you invest more into that and you will see it a success.

PR web also writes press releases, and if you look at the prices it is more inline with correct investment for correct results. As a press release needs to be newsworthy, this is why prices for true press releases are higher. It needs contact, it needs research and consideration so you have something journalists will include.

I write and release press releases for major universities and some of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. NOTHING...I repeat NOTHING beats a personal, qualified list of contacts which you can use to submit direct content. This takes work, time, and some schmoozing, but if you are industry specific, you can do it.

Barring that, on a commercial level, PRWeb is the best all things considered. The reach and visibility is amazing. I have NEVER failed to get serious activity with each and every press release I have submitted through PRWeb and have yet to see anything that can come close. It costs money to make money...fiverr is for fun folks, not for a serious business. If you are looking to MAKE fivers, it may be a good place to go...I personally set my sights a little higher up the money ladder...;-)

i believe press release still one of the best option to get "visible" in search engine and direct to reader.

getting service from premium and high authority sites will cost much higher than usual service but it give more benefit too.

i have bought pr service for cheap price, but not all of them have been indexed by google

While I wouldn't exactly encourage people to just go with fiverr, I have found really great writers there, with industry experience, using it as a way to get longer term clients.

And I have years of experience working with publicists, ranging from solo publicists to PR firms out of Los Angeles and NY, so I'm not saying this as a noob.

If you're going to buy a PR package I would HIGHLY recommend going to elance, freelancer, odesk, or whatever preferred outsourcing site you use and posting a press release project
I agree with this. I have used the distribution services of people who purchased the expensive packages and are looking to recoup their investment.

If you are in a niche where users do read syndicated content then yes go for it. Remember most of the bigger brands are read through feeds. These feeds also showcase some of the PR wires and content. So the chances of your potential clients can be much more.

I remember paul jackson from FSO used pr to get his first few SEO clients and then when he had initial money he setup ads and promotion etc. etc.
