The SKUs are own in-house inventory setup to identify suppliers, correct?

For example, if I am am using two suppliers, I might designate the initials of the suppliers names followed by numbers.

Or do you simply copy the SKU from your dropship partner?

@Anton543 you would be correct a sku would be the item number that you designate for that item number for your inventory order system.

The definition for SKU is the abbreviation for
    Stock-Keeping Unit.

A stock-keeping unit or SKU is a code that contains numbers and letters and its purpose is to identify each product or item for sale in a store or other business.

That's what I did actually. But I wanted to be sure anyway.

Since we are on the subject ( And I want to apologize beforehand for piggy backing off of your post, as I don't have the slightest answer to your question) Is it better to generate your own customer upc numbers for selling online, or is it just as well, if not easier to just use the sku/upc numbers provided by the dropshipper? Does it really make a difference, and can anyone tell me why? I probably should have come to WF first. I've been searching for this answer for a few hours now, and havent found it yet, so forgive me if my post seems a bit antsy...

For me, it is easier to use the SKU that the drop shipper supplies because when someone orders, you know exactly which product to purchase from the dropshipper.

I suppose in the long run you can get sophisticated and match up the dropshipper with your own SKU on a spreadsheet for handy reference, but for now keep it simple until you get the hang of things.

I notice that the dropshippers use many different forms of SKU's so that it may seem confusing to keep your books, but a good ecommerce software will help to keep track of it all.

Different dropshippers usually use different product numbers, or product skus to identify the product by number instead of name.

If you use just use one dropshipper per store, it doesnt seem necessary because all your orders go to just one dropshipper.

Anton543 though i have not understood the background of your question. SKU is technically just a number used to track inventory. You can use any of these for SKU - EAN/UPC (barcodes) , number assigned by your dropship partner or your own custom number.
In case of EAN/UPC the OEM supplier information is already embedded in the code. For your case I believe using dropship partner's code should be best unless there is an overlap between codes of your suppliers.
This decision can help you with tracking & raising PO's to your supplier.
