Ok guys,

I've tried a few internet marketing capers before, but I'm not very experienced. I find this community to be super helpful and knowledgeable, so I'm hoping you can tell me if I'm doing anything wrong here -
  • Step 1 - Setting the goal: My goal is to create a steady stream of income from automated sites. It seems search engine marketing is the best way to do this, so I went a-lookin' for niche keywords.
  • Step 2 - Keyword research: Using Google Keyword Tools and GoDaddy bulk domain search, I identified 4 keywords that have exact match domain names available. These are all in the same niche, selling physical products for $500-900. There are sites that sell these products and run affiliate programs. The search volume is small, 210 to 480 exact-matched global monthly searches. However, I believe I can work with this because the product is so expensive; even if I only make 2-3 sales per site per month it is around $500 a month, and very automated.
  • Step 3 - Assessing the competition: This is the step I am least certain on. I have heard contradictory advice on this. Mark Ling says to compare the ratio of global monthly searches to results returned; by this criterion, my four keywords are crappy. But the 100k Blueprint says to ignore this and just check how strong the current top dogs are. I used prchecker.info to check the page rank of the sites currently ranked #1 and #2 for the four keywords. None has a PageRank of more than 2. Do you guys think that an exact-matched domain, with a good backlinking plan, will be able to displace them?
