Drop shipping to USA from China suppliers

Hi Everyone, I would like to know how you guys are managing shipping from China suppliers to USA. I am currently using Aliexpress.com for my product suppliers, but the free shipping option available is via China Air Mail and delivery time mentioned is 15-26 days, which I think is too slow. I personally think something within a week or so is acceptable, but it should be economical. The other option available at AliExpress is "EMC" but the shipping cost is high.

Something around 6-8 days and within $10-15/KG to USA from China would be great I guess. Any such options available?

Using China Air mail is fine. I am assuming your only doing small items that
don't weigh much that's how sellers on Aliexpress can send small amounts for free.

Sounds like your trying to use the cash from the initial sale,
then buy from the Chinese supplier, then sending it to the buyer or Chinese supplier is sending direct.

You need to buy inventory first and manage your cashflow. Buy enough inventory
for 2 weeks, then order when sales come through so you always have a 2 week buffer.

If your trying to sell on eBay and consistently late on delivery using the first scenario
buyers will get pissed off and leave you bad feedback, then is all downhill from there.

    Have fun

      Hi

I am just starting to try drop shipping.

If you dropship from China it will be obvious on the package the buyer gets that it has been sent from China? Wont this put people off if you put the location of the item as elsewhere? Any you are not likely to sell if you put the location as China?

Maybe better to buy in bulk yourself and then ship?

Dropshipping from AliExpress is a bad idea, especially if it's not viable to use EMS or any other courier service. China Mail is very, very slow - don't think your customers will appreciate the long wait time.

You better buy in bulk, ship everything over to US and then use a fulfilment house for storing & dispatching goods. That is if you don't want to do it on your own.

Your best bet when using AliExpress is to find suppliers that ship EMS. It takes less than a week for your item to arrive in the U.S. Air Mail can take over a month to deliver, and your customers probably don't want to wait that long.

Buy a good amount of inventory at once, and store it until it sells. This way you don't have to worry about the slow shipping speeds when you can send it out yourself.

Plus, a lot of suppliers on AliExpress will give quantity discounts if you a bunch of items.

I bought a case for my galaxy note2 shipped direct from the far east on ebay for $4 shipped. How the heck can they sell that low? I think it took a week or so.

Aliexpress doesnt just have China suppliers, they have US as well and you can set your search to look for just them.

To the other poster- if you bought it direct, thats how they can ship it that low. They didnt have to order it from someone else- you bought more than likely physical products, with physical inventory.

On this thread I see members advising others to purchase sufficient quantity of an item to be able to supply quickly and keep customers happy.

If you are going to buy stock, even in small quantities, why not go direct to the manufacturer? Many people will say the M.O.Q.s are too great or the importing process is too complex, but I totally disagree.

For 22 years I was importing direct from the factories in China and other countries, and my order values ranged from $100 per shipment to many thousands of dollars. Do you only want to buy 20 or 50 pieces of an item to test the market, but the factory says M.O.Q. is 1,000? The easy answer can be found in my e-book. You can order 20 or 50 if you go about it the right way.

But you know nothing about how to import? Do it the easy way as I explain in my book. The people who want you to think you must buy big quantities and that importing is difficult are those who want to make a profit out of you by themselves buying from the factory and adding their margin.

    @rana1863,

There is an obvious solution, go with the more expensive shipping option and build that into your cost. Problem solved.

I have been doing business with chinese manufactory for 2 years.I found them on dhgate.I started buying small amount of items from their shop and found out i receive the items in 10 days max. Also some manufactories have connections with others.I need just to send them a picture of a product i want and they contact me with the price and availability .After ordering from dhgate i decided to start ordering directly from them not via dhgate..I just send email of the items i want and they give me price.

Lately i dont even have to pay for the items beforehand .I receive them, start selling ,making profit and then i start paying the invoices .We trust each other. What i say is start with small amount of items ,check how it goes ,check if the supplier is good and trustworthy and if so you can buy as much as you can.
I started with 10-20 items. After sold them again order then again and again 50-100pcs-200pcs etc
Now i make orders of over 2-3000pcs with them.I sell them 1-2 months and again order.
I asked the suplier to try different options of dispatch.EMS is one of the quickest .I get my boxes in 8-10 days to UK.
So find a good suppliers and stick to them. The Chinese are very good in doing business .

        Hi tollybear,

Why pay to become a customer? In 22 years of importing I never used wholesalers or dropshippers, I always went direct to the manufacturers for maximum profits. I never paid for a list or for a subscription to a wholesale sourcing site.

Locating reliable manufacturers and negotiating small orders at ex-factory prices is easy if you follow my recommendations. The importing part is a walk in the park as long as you don't try to learn all the rules and regulations.

You can always PM me if you want to know more.

Your report would be nice, but $50 is a lot of money for someone like me.

I have been looking into the direct import from China, and even drop ship from China, but the suppliers I have been directed to, I find a good product I like there and do a little research, like the Electric R/C Car radio control car I found for $30 on AliExpress, my research found similar items on eBay for $10. I was looking into this because I was just reading a WSO telling me to get my stuff there as they would ship for free and the prices were so good. HUH!!!

I give up, I don't know how you guys do it. I would love to know what you sell. I just don't have $50 to buy a report or I don't have enough money to buy inventory. I probably should just forget it, but if I don't do something, I shall be broke for ever. It isn't like I can go get a job.

I sell accesories for cell phones PC and tablets .Its quite good and profitable business as the people in UK are crazy about iphone ipad etc.I wouldnt sell my source .Sorry about that but you can find a good one in Dhgate or ioffer(more expensive items but once you start buying from someone you can offer him to buy outside the siteI did the same.Found my supllier and manifactory in dhgate. Now i send him a picture whatever i want and he finds it from others or if he has it at the lowest price..I dont pay delivery and dont pay invoice before i have sold half of the items. Its good. The other think is if the they have anything new they always send me a free samples 5-10 pcs.But it was quite difficult until i found a good supplier. It took me more than 1 year.
Start searching items in dhgate, ioffer, ahappydeal, madeinchina, chinavision,o r just type china wholesellers in google ,then find and item and compare the price in ebay and amazon .If you can make a profit its good.I dont recommend using alibaba. There are many scammers there and its difficult to find someone sell you 5-10pcs which is the best think for a new item.

Never fully trust your china counterpart. Have a few different suppliers just in case. I have work with them for various niche for many years and they always do give some problems here and there. Like sending out different colours or items. They will always tell you no problems. But there will be problems. Just always double check and triple check.

I started this thread a few days ago and after first few responses I was no longer following it Good to see some real discussion going on here! I finally have left the idea of dropshipping from China. I've found much better idea (this is what I am thinking about it so far) and I am now going to sell internationally from Pakistan(my homeland). Have discussed with some courier companies and most of them say it takes around 72 hours for any international shipping, which is quite reasonable if even extended to 5 days. Have passed some of the major hurdles and now on my way to start uploading products. Really excited about it as it's going to be my first eCommerce store. I will surely be putting my site in this section of forum for review and also have a plan for announcing some discount offers exclusively for this section of warrior forum as this is the place from where I got all the guidance and support without which I could not have done anything in this field.

I've got no experience with aliexpress, but I dropship small items through ebay and my website using china airmail. Honesty is always the best method. I tell my customers that items are located in china and will take 10-15 business days to arrive. Reply quickly to any inquiries or concerns, and offer 100% satisfaction guarantee. I've got over 1000 ebay feedbacks and have a great positive feedback %

Some of the sourcing sites listed are ones I warn my readers to avoid. You can be lucky and find a reliable supplier on one of those sites, but I have sad stories sent to me by people who got burnt before deciding it was worth spending a little money for advice.

One site that I know is safe and another that I would avoid like the plague have identical names, but one of them is hyphenated. How do you tell which is which? My book tells you. After importing for 22 years and getting burnt myself in the early days, I know the traps for the unwary.

Once you find a good supplier stick with them. Long term business relationships are your best safeguard, but you need to find a trustworthy supplier to begin with.

Also as I have previously posted, I have never used a wholesaler even though my shipments were sometimes very small. I only ever bought direct from the factory. The profit difference will amaze you.

      Hi Tim,

Have a look in your messages.

I get many questions from people wanting to import. A lot of them have found big problems with dropshipping and they come to me to find a better way.

Most are amazed to discover that there is a way they can order a very small quantity in order to get started, and still buy at ex-factory prices.

If you are using Chinese dropshippers and selling items to customers in any country, and their orders including freight, total more than the duty free threshold they will in most cases have to pay Duty & Tax.

That unpleasant surprise usually leads to bad feedback.

I am still seeing risky sites being suggested in this thread for product sourcing. For your own sake, whether dropshipping, or as some on this thread have wisely recommended, importing small inventories, make sure you do at least some basic research to see if the sourcing platform is safe. Just type the names of the sites suggested by members in this thread into the search box at Ripoff Report | Scams, reviews, complaints, lawsuits and frauds. File a report, post your review. Consumers educating consumers. and you may get a surprise. Then decide whether or not to risk buying from suppliers on those sites.

There are also other review sites where you can check.

I would not recommend any of the sites mentioned in this thread. I ran a successful importing business for 22 years before retirement, and never had a problem with a supplier in China.

There are safe places to look for suppliers and their are reliable suppliers. 22 years have taught me how to find them.

For those who like the suggestion made in this thread by several members that they should import a small inventory, I recommend going direct to real manufacturers. I still wonder about the attraction of buying from wholesalers. If you buy from them you can't possibly get as good a price as you can get from the factories they buy from, even if your orders are small.

How to find genuine manufacturers is another story ...............

Declaration of shipments at below true value or as gifts is a recipe for disaster.

Customs officials in all countries are well aware of this illegal practice and because they handle vast numbers of shipments, they also have a good idea of real values.

If a shipment is detected with fake value declared Customs will decide what they think is the real value and you cannot argue with them, even if they say it is worth double what you have really paid for it. They will charge duty anyway, even if its real value is still below the duty free threshold. Depending on the amount involved there may also be penalties imposed.

They will also flag the name and address of the importer and all future shipments to that person will be delayed for inspection at Customs regardless of value.

Never make false declarations when importing goods. It is illegal and can land you in big trouble.

If you are dropshipping, the customer is the one who will have to pay the bill when they get caught, because legally they are the importer. Imagine your feedback rating!
