Which shopping cart would you recommend, knowing that I need these features?

1. Customer must be able to input several fields of information of their choice. Not using drop downs. (For example, the customer will enter the text she wants personalized on the item.)

2. The email receipts that my secretary receives with these orders will contain all of the customized information, so that my secretary can fulfill orders working off emails without logging into the system.

A free system is preferred, although I'd be happy to pay a low monthly fee if necessary!

Take a look at BigCommerce. A little known function is the ability to add a text box for people to provide the very information you are looking for. What is great is you can then provide you assistant a customer service login to go in and get the order information. Otherwise you can add your admins email as where the order goes so she gets that. Its a nice bit of functionality that is not known. It starts out at $24.99 a month.

Any other ideas? This is for a non profit, so I don't think they'll be thrilled about a 24.99 monthly fee for such a simple concept.

  I think you can do it with Wordpress, woocommerce and then there are some woocommerce extensions that will let you add to it. It all depends how many products you are selling. Is it 1 to 3? Go for wordpress, you will just have to buy the extension, if it is for multiple products, remember BigCommerce will let you create a nice little front page in their WYSIWYG editor and create front page banners as well.

Go for OpenCart, it`s a free opensource webshop, and i`m sure it has the features you`re looking for.

It sounds like WuFoo might work for your needs, it's not a shopping cart per se but if the above is all you need then it will work.
