Thanks.

I have used dhgate.com before, abundance of wholesale products. I have nothing bad to say about them. Just make sure the seller has good positive feedback.

I would suggest finding a profitable niche and doing some research to see if the item you want sells and what it sells for. Then I would research manufactures and wholesalers in that specific niche.

Liquidation and alibaba are "ok" but personally if I find an item I'm selling is hot I like to have the option of buying more and more. You can do that with alibaba but the ship time takes to long for me.

The best way to find manufactures is not google lol I would suggest going to a store that sells your item and looking at the back of the product it will say where and who made it sometimes it even has a website. If not then go to google and type in the name of the company and location and you can usually find it.

That is the best way to buy things because there is usually price break points. For example: If you spend $3000 you get 30% off. If you have the money to invest ask them for Distributor pricing not wholesale pricing. Distributor pricing is generally 30% off of wholesale price.

I was told by a very smart business man that " You make money buying not selling " It is so true.

When you're are looking at items on ebay you will want to try to buy them wholesale 60% off. For example If I see an item selling for $11.99 free shipping I try to buy it at $4.00. There is obvious exceptions to this rule but that's where I start.

    Hope this helps!

Where do wholesalers buy? Where do dropshippers buy? If you are looking for the very best prices, you should go direct to their suppliers - the manufacturer.

I will not say anything bad about any supply sources here, but all I will say is that in my book I limit my list of recommended sourcing sites to just a handful that I know from 22 years of importing are safe to use.

Once you find a safe sourcing site you still have due diligence to consider. Even good feedback is not enough because it could all be faked.

PM me if you would like more information.

It depends also on what do you want to buy. There is no "general wholesale directory". Some products does not even have "wholesale directories" and you have to contact producers directly.

Also yesterday I completely forgot to mention...

Wholesale Central - Directory of wholesalers and wholesale products Is definitely my favorite directory.

I've found a lot of good connections through them, but PLEASE NOTE not all of them are wholesale prices. You really have to do some research.

Once you make a relationship with a good wholesaler It's the best thing. I can call up one of my manufacturer tell him my name and he knows exactly who I am and tells me the hottest selling items and let me tell you he has been 100% right thus far all his items he picks sells.

      Good Luck - Travis

I find it difficult to understand why resellers want to find wholesalers when they can go direct to the manufacturers and buy at better than wholesale prices.

Going direct to the mfg. is fine if you have the capital to invest and the place to store the items. For those of us without that luxury, dropshipping is an alternative to help get to the point of being able to purchase direct from the mfg. Please shoot holes in my theory if I'm wrong.

I don't want to shoot holes in your theory, except to say you along with thousands of others are not aware of what I have proven over 22 years of importing, and that is that you can order very small quantities direct from the factory.

As for storage room, that depends on the size of the product(s). It takes almost no room to store 100 watches. They can be a highly profitable line by the way.

The dropshipping industry has done a brilliant job of hiding the facts about how easy it is to import small quantities direct from the manufacturer. PM if you want more details.

If you considering purchasing from China, the ultimate website for getting the cheapest products is taobao.com. Over the years it has surpassed amazon and ebay in sales.
One problem is it's in chinese. you have to use google to translate it.

I suggest caution if using sites like taobao.com. They sell big brand names but are they genuine? If they are not and you import them you could be in BIG trouble. If I was a betting man I would bet they are not genuine.

If you are determined to use tabao, you will find the English translation version sometimes difficult to follow. I know what they are talking about, because I have been visiting China since 1978 as an exporter, and since 1987 as an importer, but the sometimes puzzling translation highlights the need for care in communicating with suppliers whose first language is not English. You may confuse them with expressions that are perfectly clear to you.

This is one of the subjects I deal with in my book on importing.

Just a further quick note: There are English language sites offering to buy from tabao for you, but you would need to do your calculations thoroughly to avoid paying too much to make any profit on resale. Ther is a whole raft of charges that they add to tabao's prices.

I am 100% with you on that there are tons of fake products on taobao, one should always watch out. As a matter fact only recently taobao was remove from the notorious markets list in USA.

A friend once told me that taotao has been split into two part, tmall and taobao. the tmall part are mostly trustworthy manufactures.

Yes, taobao has very good price. But Still keep in mind that there are lots of fake and poor quality products. Make sure find a good seller.

Alibaba, alixpress, dhgate have good resources, lots of wholsalers there. But try to find more well-known B2B websites similar to Alibaba, such as made-in-china, ec21, tradekey etc. There are a lots of chinese wholesalers and manufactures there.

Also, search the wholesalers in google and contact them.

So many buyers could save themselves a lot of money and a lot of hassles if they obtained good advice. I see names here of sites that certainly have lots of suppliers listed, but all I can say to people thinking of sourcing products on the basis of some of the posts here: CAVEAT EMPTOR. - Let the Buyer Beware.

Depends on what type of products you are looking for. I have used dhgate before as another poster mentioned. They have good products if you find a reputable seller. Most of them will also provide you with a sample if you request one. The only problem is that sometimes shipping with them can be slow. Liquidation.com is great, but the products continuously change.

How many know a sure way of finding a reputable seller? I suggest that anyone attempting to search for suppliers without expert guidance should at least check out the sourcing site. You can search in various ways, but ripoffreport.com could be a place to start. You can search almost every sourcing site there.

You need to remember that disgruntled people will lodge bad reports relating to almost every site, even some good sites. For example there was a complaint on another forum about a Chinese company supposedly found on my most preferred sourcing site, but they have never been listed there. In the same post the complainant refers to a definitely risky sourcing site, so he seems a bit mixed up.

I am pleased to say that the site I give my top recommendation to in my book on importing has zero complaints recorded on ripoffreport. I would still advise due diligence even if using what you are satisfied is a safe sourcing site.

If anyone has a favorite scam warning site they may like to share it to help others on this forum.

We teach what we do ourselves, which is go directly to the manufacturers. You might be surprised by the number of them that will give you wholesale pricing and dropship single items directly to your customers for you. If they don't, we have found that most of them are very helpful in supplying information about who their large purchasers or distributors are. Those large purchasers will often dropship items for you!

I'd be extremely careful about buying from any of the overseas wholesalers. Yes, their prices are ridiculously low but generally you get what you pay for. I absolutely would not use an overseas supplier for any name brand products - they are absolutely guaranteed to be fakes. If you are simply selling generic, non-name brand products, by all means, try some of the Asian suppliers out. Get a sample of the product(s) and make sure it is good enough for your customers before ordering any quantities of them, though.

Yes, definitely go direct to the manufacturers. I was originally dealing with local manufacturers but with so many in my field closing down, I was eventually forced to go overseas.

I agree that I would never buy from overseas wholesalers. I have only ever gone direct to the source. After all that is where the wholesalers buy. After developing a good business relationship it is great to see how helpful they will be. Many of my shipments and those of my franchisees in four countries were as low as $100 value. (I sold that business when forced to retire.)

You can find reliable overseas suppliers but the area is a minefield. A website dealing specifically with the subject lists over 3,000 scam Chinese websites. Many of them offer fake big brand names to the gullible.

I don't teach how to sell but I do know the traps for the unwary in relation to sourcing and importing. PM me for information.

I agree, stay away from those name brand products with unbeliveable low price. I know some guys in our local selling name brand products at cake price. Guess what customers will recevie? Fake products, or cheap shoes, or washing powder or some else cheap stuff.

Some of the well known and well advertised sourcing sites have suppliers listed who advertise big brand names. The first thing to do when you go to wholesale web portals is to enter Nike, or Gucci or other big brand names in their search area.

If suppliers offering those branded products appear in your search results - forget it. If they allow absolute scammers like that on their site, how can you trust any of their suppliers?

I frequently see posts on this and other forums recommending various sourcing sites that I know for certain list suppliers who are not reliable.

Our own site Tradesparency.com is a good place to add reviews of fradulent and bad suppliers. We are only focusing on manufacturers and suppliers.

We need to get the names of the bad suppliers out there. So many small businesses are hurting and some are even going bankrupt after running into a scammer on alibaba.

On yelp.com people are giving others tips about the great restaurants. We need to do the same in ecommerce. Then we can all eat better.

I personally used two wholesale/drop ship directories for years and the one I recommend the most is Drop Ship, Dropship Company, Wholesale Dropship Products, Dropshipping Supplier. It provides high quality suppliers. Of course you need to start with an idea in mind and not just search around without a purpose - that will waste your time.

Yes it will cost you $299 but for $50 you can get all the information you need to locate trustworthy suppliers for large or small quantities, with very little legwork. Not only that but you can learn how easy it is to do the importing yourself without knowing the rules and regulations.

The real bonus is that you get genuine ex-factory prices, not the inflated prices charged by wholesalers or dropshippers. Just have a quick look at my site and see that I know what I am talking about.

Think profit - think direct importing.
