Critique my new checkout process

Hi there,

I'm split testing a hosted cart (provided by infusionsoft) and a custom cart we developed. The new cart is in my opinion more user friendly and better looking but does not perform better than the infusionsoft cart. Have a look:

old cart: Love Systems: Add to cart
new cart: http://www.lovesystems.com/checkout/...ddsku?sku=2008

On the new cart the main checkout page is reached after entering name/email/state/country. You guys can enter fake info to get past step 1 and see the actual checkout screen.

I tried to incorporate what I understand ecommerce best practices to be. If I'm going in the wrong direction here please let me know.

Thanks!

Although I am not crazy about either one, the old one is going to convert better than the new one because it is a one page checkout process.

I opted for collecting name and basic geographic location on the first step so that if the user does not finish the checkout process I can add them to a follow up sequence that emails them at two intervals asking them to finish or possibly offering some other incentive in the future.

I have to be honest: Your SECOND cart drove me nuts and it didnt work. I kept entering info, and there was something in my cart but it wouldnt take me to the checkout page. I liked the first one better and it worked when I tested it!

Well, if you have 2 versions, A/B Testing is better than advice on a forum ...

One step checkout is not always the best choice, it sure is for most of the products, but not in all case.

My current round of A/B testing is showing a bias towards the first cart again. There still isn't enough data to make a conclusive decision but I'll consider making the change to a one step checkout.

Also, this is a guest checkout. There is no way to actually make an account.
