Hi Guys

i have been buying products from a site in China for a while and have gotten to trust them. They have a affiliate program and I was thinking of building an ecommerce site.

I have noticed they have datafeeds for thier products. Are these easy to import and how do you go about it

Data feeds are not difficult to use but sometime they may required some manipulation or modifications to fit the eCommerce platform requirements. This is easy accomplished by using excel macros in case of csv type files

Depending on the platform/shopping cart used, you may need additional software to accept data feeds. For example, I use OpenCart and there is no data import option but you can purchase an extension for as little as $15 to do the job. There are also free extensions but they lack some of the features that I need/like.

There are other shopping carts with data import built in. One such shopping cart is Prestashop.

In any event, you need to pick your shopping cart first and then see what is needed to get data imported.

Once you set everything set up it takes only minutes to upload your products.

I'm curious if you will be having the products drop shipped from China, or if you will stock them yourself... There are many issues with dropshipping from China, the main one being delivery time. Customers also may be disappointed when they receive a package that has been sent from China, if they were expecting a domestic shipment.

If you are new to ecommerce, I would suggest using a fully integrated cart/host, such as bigcommerce or volusion. They will allow for easy importing of feeds, as well as SEO. There is a monthly cost involved, but if you are just starting out, it may be worth it!

You didn't mention the ecommerce platform you are using. Different ones will handle importing data differently, often through the use of an extension that you buy. I use Woocommerce and I have the csv import extension. Works like a charm for csv files.
