I have been working to create my e commerce site and I have been evaluating different models and I found this interesting link:

My experience with Doba after 48 hours. : Entrepreneur

Here the OP explains his experience with Doba, the above link is the original content, but I am going to make a digest of the most important information about his experience:

a) Profit Margins are not great at all, but many people choose it for the number of products.

b) There is a free 1 week trial, but if you don't cancel your trial you will be automatically billed for the first month period.

c) There are many products but the search feature is terrible.

d) After 3 or 4 pages of products they start to repeat to make you feel they have a lot of variety.

e) There are a lot of products from brands nobody knows or wants.

f) Specific example he brings: product A price $19.99 + $3 drop shipping fee + $10 shipping estimate (a product that can be easily be sent in an envelope) total cost = $32.99 while the same product on ebay with shipping cost included is $36, your profit would be $3.99

g) Products have just one picture and some times is low quality.

h) Monthly fees are $60.

i) Before the 7 day period finished a sales representative call him, he told him he was having problem with the search function and that it seems like the profit margins wont be very high, sales representative agree with him and did not give any answers.

I think it is important to have this type of evaluations, otherwise I would have bought the membership for sure.

Cheers.

I had a similar experience with DOBA.

I lost money on the items that I sold on eBay.

I would NOT use DOBA again.

Actually, you can find the items on Ebay to be less expensive.

(Listing a Doba product on Ebay and the competition beats you in price almost always.)

Cancellation has to be done by speaking to someone, and can not be cancelled on the internet.

Doba is the biggest load of BS I've seen.

I'ts setup to prey on inexperienced newbies

They are profiting off your laziness

Think about it, if everyone is using the same drop shippers and going to the same online platforms to sell the shit i,e eBay.

Duh... do you really think you'll make a lot of money.

They're making money of monthly subscriptions.

You can find drop shippers, better still deal direct with suppliers using Alibaba.

Wouldn't you rather deal from the source and create a long term business relationships with them, instead of using a chumps like Doba.

I agree you should go direct, not just to the suppliers but to the real manufacturers. It is difficult to be sure that you have found a real manufacturer by using Alibaba or in fact any of the sourcing sites that so often get a mention on this forum.

A very large % of suppliers on Alibaba and other places claim to be manufacturers and they are not. I teach people how to safely locate the real factories and buy small quantities direct from them.

Sadly also, a lot of people adopt the Wild West approach; "Shoot first and ask questions later." By that I mean I have seen people place orders overseas and pay out good money without any idea how much it will cost them for shipping, duty etc. They have no idea how much they must buy the product for if they are going to make good profits.

If you are going to start selling something you need to work out a few things first. Look for some posts by auctiondebteliminator because he is brilliant in the way he teaches how to prepare to start your online business.

What I do is teach how to go about safely sourcing small or large quantities direct from the real manufacturers, and then how easy it is to handle the importing process without having to learn all the rules. Direct access to factories and factory pricing is critical if you want to maximize profits.

  • I've actually stated this on a thread before, but this was my experience with Doba:

"A quick rundown of the numbers will quickly show you that their products do NOT show a profit.

Here is their pitch: "This is how much the item is FOR SALE for on eBay" and "This is how much we charge you for it"

What they don't tell you: "This is how much our dropshipping fee is" "This is how much we charge in shipping" "This is how much the item ACTUALLY SELLS FOR"

The problem with most dropshipping companies that are 'eBay certified' (meaning they paid eBay a fee to say that) is that they lure you in based on an 'MSRP'.

I will say this now: "Nothing on eBay has EVER sold for an MSRP... Never once, never ever, and never will."

Here another thing - No item ever sells at the MAP price either!

So one might wonder - can you ever do dropshipping on eBay then?

Yup... been teaching it for years. ... but you need to leverage yourself first.

Read my free eBook (they've been a pretty big hit on WF right now) and you'll get a pretty good foundation.

Believe me. .. Doba was pretty easy to pick apart. I signed up for a free trial, had their salesman call me.

He hung up on me after he said this: "Well, since you OBVIOUSLY have everything already figured out, it looks like we have nothing to talk about *click*"

    I just smile."

Second Auctiondebteliminator. If you can make any money using those "famous" dropship websites, you don't think about other people can do the same? Ebay is a place for buying products with lower price. Even you are fortunate enough to sell an item with higher value than other buyers, after all the dropshipping fee plus ebay fee plus paypal fee, you will find out you just dump all your hard earned money to their pocket.

  • My favorite thing about Doba is that they tell you that they 'don't make a margin on the products'.

Any quick search on the internet for the model number/sku number can show you CLEARLY that that is a lie.

I love tearing apart salesman at their own game.

It's rewarding when they hang up on YOU.
