So I had a store about 2 years ago or so and discontinued it to focus on other things. Now I want to continue this company (under a different name). I have a list of about 20 or so vendors in my niche. The products I will be selling are fairly high end. My issue is, that the first time around, it took me a month or so to get accepted as a dealer by one of these vendors because my store was not established enough, but there is no way to establish the store without a vendor

So my question is, how do you guys go about approaching these vendors prior to establishing your site?

I was having the same problem. But, as I told them, this was a new venture, but not my first; albeit, the first was a service-oriented business which I shut down when the recession hit full force. I managed to get a handful of vendors this time around, and, yes, they are cautious with me. But, I hope to put their fears aside soon. As some say, "give it like it's all ya got, boy." So, keep knocking on the doors, so to speak. Oh, and have a nice site, too. That will help.

If you still have the company alive, you could probably just change the Bank Accounts to have a DBA as "new company name" but have everything still registered under the old name...even the tax info. That way, when you apply, you just make a note that you're just using a new name even though you have x amount of years of experience. Hopefully you still have that stuff even though I'm guessing it's all dead. If so, I guess you'll have to start all over. I'd be honest with the vendors though and tell them the truth if that was the case though.

I think this is only hard to do if you're asking for wholesale prices. You can always just mark up the price on your site, and order directly from the vendor and have them ship it to the client (dropshipping without them knowing about it). Win-win situation for everybody.
