Nasty Gal - New & Vintage Clothing

in my eyes, this site is really cool. the layout, the look, and the flow...looks very simple but with a ton of info all around..

what is the best way to build a site like this? i know their e-commerce platform is weblinc (i think weblinc does custom jobs, no set pricing). but if i wanted to start an e-commerce site and use this as the inspiration, how would I go about?

thanks.

You could achieve this look on a number of platforms. One that comes to mind is WooCommerce built on Wordpress. I can do sites like these on low budgets.

PM if you would like details.

Go to themeforest You can find alot of themes there. I have Woocommerce with Wordpress, and yes if you go and look at the themes they offer you will find some like that too. That theme is using a pop up with sliders. Personally, I have Bazar Shop. Its a HUGE learning curve for that theme, but once you get the hang of it-easy peasy. Other one that comes to mind is Mayo Shop. You can usually find out what theme they are using either by right click and view source, or contact them and ask.

Personally I had my e-commerce website built on Wordpress. Now I am quite satisfied. Concerning this clothing website, it is truly cool, I prefer this style of websites: light and bright. Good choice!

I would build this on Magento with a template from ThemeForest. You will need to make quite a bit of template customization but its totally possible with Magento.

If you are curious about the company, here is the platform it is created on (sorry you already mentioned it...).

      Nasty Gal | WebLinc eCommerce

As for platforms, any of the hosted platforms should give you this look and feel, even with their stock themes and templates. If they are missing anything, it might be the search features.

Go ahead and take a look at these three platforms as they will all give you the look and feel you want.

BigCommerce (the easiest and simplest to use but you give up some functionality)
Americommerce (the most difficult one to use but powerful)
MagentoGo (heard good things in regards to clothing related stores)

They are all hosted platforms (you don't have to deal with servers, ssl certificates, etc) and relatively cheap. $25/month to start.

If you want the functionality of that store you will not get it with Woocommerce and wordpress. Caveat, I love Wordpress just not for full ecommerce stores.

I love shopify, I know it is pretty mainstream now but all of the sites just look so clean.

Nasty Gal uses WebLinc eCommerce. But, if I had to build a site like like, I would use Shopify, BigCommerce, or Volusion. Just my opinion.

Personally I like how this website looks. Everything you need is in a shortened page...no scrolling to the "center of earth" to find something new

    Hi,

We can build your site with any platform like wordpress, joomla, opencart.

I will suggest you to go for joomla or open cart as they are more robust.

I am not saying WordPress is bad but it is better to go for something which is well known and robust for eCommerce..

    thanks,

ThemeForest is the best option as you can get plenty of themes there. I would like to go for Joomla or Magento with a template from ThemeForest. With Magento it is easily manageable to build genuinely cost-effective website and safe too. Because of its robust feature, Magento can give your required e-commerce project a new look as well as functionality.

You can PM me if you require more details.

I'd second Shopify. I built my Store on the platform and I'm really happy with it. Not so happy with the transaction fees though but I guess it's a growth platform i.e until you have the resources to self-host.

NastyGal is a great story, and the website today is obviously very good. However, it's worth remembering like most businesses, the origins were pretty humble. If you check out the Internet Archive, you can see how basic sites like this got started.

Congrats to the founder though, to build a business off Ebay and scale it up to what it is today takes a lot.

You can make a site similar like that one by using Wordpress. Most hosting services offer the Wordpress add-on and it's easy to setup with a few clicks. For the store you'll want to find a nice Wordpress ecommerce / shop template to change the look and add the cart features. Do a quick Google search for WP shop or WP ecommerce templates, there are many to choose from.
