How to monetize a URL shortening website?

Dear,
I'm owning a website providing service of URL shortening (Google profile link shortening). However I don't know how to monetize this kind of website. Just think about placing some ads directly on homepage, or redirecting to an intermediate page (where ads will be placed) before going to target webpage; or providing tracking service of every click. What do you think the best solution? And i'm not a programmer, so how to deal with work relating to coding? (Any contributions are appreciated). Thanks a great deal!

  • You could place ads on your site, of course, but any sort of ad placement wouldn't do much good unless you could prove some sort of demographic/traffic that would be driven to another site.

When I place ads on other sites - banner ads, for example, I look at the demographics of that site and if they closely relate to the demographics on MY site. That way I know that the audience is targeted already.

    If not, I'm not interested.

If it's a new site, or if there isn't enough traffic to generate any data, then I'm not interested until the site does have the data for me to make the decision.

Because by then, both you AND the advertiser could fairly calculate an eCPM/RPM so both are getting a decent deal on the advertising dollar.

Adsense wouldn't do you much good, though, for the same reason - the audience wouldn't be targeted to click on your ads unless they were retargeted ads.

Well, it's not a new site (I have a database of about 3000 user). So follow your opinion, I consider between Adsense and Ads from other advertisers. But is Adsense safe??, since my website doesn't really have content, just an input and output of URL; in case of placing Ads, I don't know how I can find a good and relevant advertiser in this field. Thanks for your help

(I want to click "thank" button but don't see it, I'm a new guy, please let me know where it is)

Heh, I just came out with a WSO (in my sig) that talks about this subject! Sorry for the shameless plug, but hey, I think it would help.

Anyways - I think ads would be fine and with some traffic you could do some custom advertising solutions. TinyURL basically just runs three ads on each page.

If you have enough traffic you can always sell adspace by using buysellads.com
