For me personally I would say I don't spend enough. I try to tackle too many tasks myself rather than just getting them done by someone else. At the same time my outsourcing jobs haven't always been done very well just causing more of a pain in the ass because now I have to deal with incompetent people and fixing their stuff.

I recently found a great developer though and I am using him for multiple projects now, I would say the key is in finding trustworthy people to go to. Might cost you more though.

I don't spend anything on outsourcing. I am the one that others outsource to. And I love it. In the past I have had the occasion to outsource but it has been infrequently.

Close to 1K. But have employees also. We outsource (full time employees in the Philippines) things that it wouldn't be sensible/affordable to hire an American to do.

To me the ideal tasks to outsource are writing gigs. It's vital to always be adding fresh and unique content to your website, and unless you enjoy writing you won't want to be the source of all that content. We spend several hundred dollars a month on good textual content and it's worth every penny!

      Dave,
Does most of this content go directly on the ecommerce website or more so into the blogs which are directly related to the website as a subdomain?

Both, really. We post tons of guide-type articles on the ecommerce store itself, but then we also post to the subdomain WP blog at least twice each week.

The articles on the site are 'buying guides' that are specifically related to the products we carry. The blog posts are more casual and are about anything of interest within the site's general market. We use the articles within the site to boost our site's authority and increase the conversion rate. The blog posts are used to drive social followers to in an attempt to build natural links and get the brand name known in that market.

I hope that makes sense and helps!

I am from the Philippines, typical fee for a web writer is 500 US dollar. Some can charge lower or higher. Hope this helps.

How much are you guys spending outsourcing articles writing only? Would you trust the foreigners to write a decent article? How much is each article? Most articles written by them are very dry and lifeless. It is grammatically correct and full sentence alright, but after reading the first couple sentences, your fingers start to fidget and bounce away from the page. Thanks...
