eBay Score Question

Hi all.

I would like to ask for your opinion on this matter:
I sold my wife's iphone 4 on ebay in Jan (in very good conditions, by the way) and to my knowledge everything went fine. So I forgot about ebay and continued my other businesses.

Last week i logged in cause i would like to start ecommerce and I notice that the guy i sold the iphone too wrote a complaint in Feb. It was nonsense so I tracked him and saw he copied/pasted the same complaint to many others. I was so mad, I called eBay and they told me since it was in Feb they couldn't do much about it... (after insisting they said they will report him..)

The thing is that it lowered my score to 67 positive feed back... (2 good and 1 bad)

Do you guys think that I should create another account for my business instead of using the personal account with 67%?

  • That is up to you. You can have more than 1 account.
  • You can leave a reply to the feedback the buyer left. If you leave something along the lines of "Buyer is leaving negative feedback on all transactions" or something like that, this will show your potential customers that you were not to blame. That type of thing happened to me before as well, but I just started selling a bunch of low ticket items to get my feedback up, then once it was a much better percentage (95%+) I started selling higher ticket items. You should be fine!

  • There are always some people that like to just stuff the system and place negative feedback for everything. They are real a**holes...but it is hard to deal with, just the same.

    • Agreed. I've had someone once post on my feedback stating that I sold them a junk telephone.

      This telephone I sold was a vintage telephone with just the casing and no insides. I stated in the listing that It was just the outer casing and the bottom of the telephone that was being sold and there was nothing inside of it and that it wasn't working.

      I even showed it with the insides gone. The buyer only paid $1.00 for the phone and $2.00 shipping. lol

      I just kindly replied to the feedback and stated that I had mentioned in the listing that the insides were gone and it was just the outer casing and bottom of the phone.

      And his feedback of "Should not have been sold" well he shouldn't have bought it if he wanted a working telephone. I have a right to sell that phone even if it didn't work.

      He didn't have to buy it. lol

  • Here's how you reply to it - (And it's true you can't do anything about it since it was a while ago)

    It puts the blame on him, but you're maintaining a positive demeanor on you. You don't ever want to respond rudely, because you don't want to come off as 'that guy' as a seller. They'll see through that.

    Luckily, this did happen in Feb, and eBay calculates your feedback percentage in the last 12 months. So, that will come off in due time.

    I do not recommend getting a new eBay account as eBay does give priority to older accounts.

    So, what do you do at this point? You INCREASE your transactions! That percentage will go down like crazy.

    One method I'd suggest is buying 1 cent items for free shipping. (NOT. DIGITAL. ITEMS. <----- I can't stress that enough) This can be pens, pencils, paper, pennies, beads, etc.

    If you buy these at auction, only bidding 1 to 6 cents, you'll lose the vast majority, but you're actually bidding on a PHYSICAL item which isn't a violation of eBay policy. (Don't bid on local pick up only items either)

    That way your percentage goes up, it doesn't look as bad as 67 percent, and in 7 more months you'll be back to 100%.


    And, when your reply is positive -- and customer service centered --- people will notice.

  • Because the ratio is completely shit and you just started, go create another account and dump this one. Also if it's your business, how is it possible to login a month later and find that out? If you're doing business on eBay, depending on volume, you almost have to login daily.

    • I disagree. Definitely ditch this account and start a new one. It will save you a lot of time and effort.

      Also, did you know that negatives fall off of your account after one year? So in the future if you new account has any negatives you can switch back to the old one.

  • Never run from your eBay feedback. Trust me, they know who you are when you sign up under a different name. Eventually they will track you.

    Assuming you're feedback went from something great, to 67%, I would be sure you have under 10 total feedback.

    You can take care of this in like 2 days and at least your primary concern about your feedback percentage will be solved.

    1) Go type in "iPhone 4s or iPhone 5 data cable" ....select buy it now only, price range criteria $1-$2.

    Buy 10 of them from 10 different sellers. (Because multiple purchases from the same seller don't always count 1:1, depending on the length of time in between the purchases).

    Just go buy some grab bad item or eBooks where you might get instant feedback right away.

    2) You do get a few revision request granted for every user by default annually. I think it's 2. You should request the contact details of the seller . Their info is sent to your e-mail. Call them, be a gentleman and a scholar and take it up the rear even if the guy is bogus and offer some sort of resolution if it's within reason.

    Guys can act all big and bad through a message on eBay but when you call them a lot will back down and be somewhat willing to work things out seeing that you're pro activly trying to resolve the issue and that the feedback is so important to you.
