Helping someone sell on ebay..

This guy on another forum doesn't have a established ebay account nor have the time to sell some old items he has in his house, so he asked me to help him sell it. I don't know the guy. So we agreed that after the sale is made he would send the item. But i just realized that he can easily scam me. Even if the guy provides me with a tracking number, I would never know if he actually sent the item. Is there anyway around this? So I would not get scammed?

  • On eBay, you can sell items and have the money paid to different Paypal accounts.

One idea I had (it's not ideal - since I'd never do this deal in the first place) is to have the item listed, and the money paid into YOUR Paypal account from the listing.

That way, YOU'RE in control of the money until positive feedback is received, and then money could be relegated into his account.

That is a way around this strategy.

Yea I was thinking about that but he probably won't do that because now he has a chance to be scammed by me. I need something that works for both of us. He doesn't know me either, so if he sends the item to my customer before I pay him the money, I can just keep the money. I definitely wouldn't do that but is probably what will be going through his mind. Thanks for your thoughts.

When the items sell, have the money go into your PayPal account. Don't release the money to the seller until he has shipped the package and the tracking number says the package was successfully delivered. If he doesn't like that idea, tell him to sell his items himself. He has to take some risk if he wants someone else to do the hard work for him.

  • ^ Yeah, that's exactly what I said.

But, to the original poster - another thing you can do is write up a consignment agreement.

Put it on letterhead, write it in super awesome legalese, and make it look professional and explain 'this is what I do for everyone I do consignment selling to protect both me, and you'.

You can explain: 'This ensures the party gets their items, and both of us get paid'.

Then have both of you sign it.

Now, if the money is in your Paypal account, and even AFTER they have 'sent' the item - if they scam you, Paypal allows you to open up a case against them and claim back the money as 'item not described'. Kind of like a 'charge back'.

If he doesn't provide the documentation of the item - then you have all of that money back.

Just make sure when you send the money to him in his Paypal account, you label it as 'eBay goods' and you can have those protections.

If he still wont do that - then it's obvious he's trying to scam you and I wouldn't even pursue this further.

I remember I had a similar offer from some unknown guy, telling me he had great items but no eBay account.
I replied and ask to send me the items and I would take care of selling them and shipping them. Never heard back.
    It was obviously a scam.

You should protect yourself, as xismfofx22 and Auctiondebteliminator have suggested. He needs you, not vice versa.

I'm assuming you have an established eBay account? That just further improves your negotiation point. You can just walk away.

But yeah, it's advisable to generally avoid doing these sort of deals to begin with.

A fast trick to build up your feedback score in one shot is to buy multiple $1 cable wires from different dealers in china.Take like $40-$50 and buy a bunch of different sizes and that will boost the new feedback up in one shot. You can then resell the cables in lots for a little more or reduced shipping OR at the Flea Market in your area.PPL always need new wires for something and since China can manufacture 1 wire for 3 cents, the can afford to free a ship a $1 item and still make money.

I do it all the time with my drop shippers. What I do is the drop shippers sell the product. Once they sell it they place an order on my website using paypal or credit. I ship the product and give a tracking number. The seller and drop shipper are protected by paypal and the credit card company. Its a two part system. Never sell other people's stuff if they do not have an established website running with a checkout system. If you simply send someone money with paypal you have no recourse. If you purchase something off their site using express checkout or Paypal pro API, you are protected.
