How can I increase traffic to my eBay store?!

I've been on eBay for over 10 years and I'm still learning how things work on it...

I feel like I should be a professional by now but even though I throw myself around like one when I market, I'm far from it and have no idea what I'm doing half the time... I'm basing it off of just things I know here and there...

I tried to use SEO to the best of my ability, and I've designed each of my listings to boost sales... I do mass variations in one listing to encourage buying more then one item at a time, I sell hot items such as Galaxy S3, S4 and iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5 cases... I sell them for very cheap and I buy my stock for next to nothing in mass bulks so I can keep my prices very low... I sell my items with Free Shipping, and I even started my first sale today on my iPhone 4/4S cases..

I have over 99% positive feedback rating and I'm listed as a Top Rated seller as well as a Powerseller.... I run a blog, FaceBook Page, Pintrest page and Twitter Page to my eBay store which I update regularly...

and yet, after all this work, I still only sell 1- 5 cases each day...

I know that's a lot more then most do, but I still feel like I should be attracting a lot more traffic!

So I need some advice, what more can I do to help my store?

How many people are buying phone cases? How many people are selling them? What distinguishes you from the rest of the people that are selling them?

Do you have real FB and Twitter followers? How about an email list? How many are on these? Are you engaging them?

Unfortunately, you're in a saturated market. iPhone cases are in abundance from sellers and not enough demand to meet supply. You're also competing with chinese sellers, sometimes manufacturers but most times wholesalers who can sell it at a fraction of your price.

You probably don't want to hear this but it's probably time to start looking into another product. Good luck!

Best Possible solution might be, having videos for each types of cases with beautiful models telling about your products and then uploading them on youtube as a testimonial and then run link building and other campaigns to actually push all your videos up.Therefore, any time people search for iphone case they can find your multiple videos.

      Best wishes,

You have nailed it. Cell phone cases are being sold for literally pennies on eBay en masse. I know because I used to sell them.

The Chinese government subsidizes shipping for its merchants and with the low cost of Chinese labor selling cell phone cases on eBay is an impossibility, unless you are living in China.

Ha, yes, I know this is a HUGE factor to the prices on eBay, and no I live in the good ol' USA.
But that is what I focus on really. The fact that anyone who pays that $1 for a cell case is waiting almost a month to receive it!

My thing is speed. The faster my items get to their destination, the better. I ship things out the same day they're paid for and my feedback on eBay is almost the same thing the whole way down, and that's everyone commenting on how fast their case got there.

I mean, I'll be honest, my cases are sold for $5.95 each for the most part, a few of them are sold for a little more, about $8.95, but it's still in the range of good competition with the Chinese...

and I see those penny auctions (with free shipping) and take advantage of some of them myself to supply 'different' stock sometimes... usually I'll go through them and put a penny on each and see what happens. I find that almost all those auctions, including the junk cases that wouldn't be able to protect a candybar phone, rise to well above my own pricing which seems ridiculous in my opinion.

So based on those assessments, the Buy-it-Now option with the GTC (Good til Cancelled) option seem to be the best bet for these type of listings.

I have created a Youtube video for them, right when I got started actually, but I probably should update it as I've brought it more variations for each of my listings since. Thanks for reminding me about it, I almost forgot to be honest lol

If I were in your shoes I would look towards buying a premium domain name or pre established website and list up your items for sale at 5% lower than your eBay prices as you won't be paying direct fees and direct traffic from your listings on eBay to your site with the use of things like watermarks on your images and realocate the funds you are spending on eBay to things like adwords. Sounds like you've capped out. I used to sell vintage video game toys I purchased in bulk from a japanese toy distributor and no matter what I did I couldn't gross more than 7000 a month with these things on eBay. I spent $600 on a site and adwords and I started adverising on youtube and myspace and within 2 months I was making twice as much with less fees and then I sold the site for $18000 in 2011. eBay had a large consumer base but uncomparable to the potential consumer base of Google.

I agree to this. Why not invest in small, compact/portable product that is more expensive. That way, you have the same traffic, the same freight but bigger mark up resulting to bigger profit.

If you already have an ebay store, and you know you have some great deals, but are still not making any sales, it could be because you arent getting any traffic. If you only sell your items through your ebay store, then they are not showing up in the search results when another ebay member enters a keyword specific to your item. to correct this, always host at least one auction in each category that is relevant to the item you are selling, assuming you have multiple quantities of that item or a similar item. be sure to when you create your listing to include a common phrase such as: See my ebay store great buy now deals on similar items!, in your description. you'll be suprised at how many more sales are generated from this method alone. another helpful idea is to have some business cards made that includes the web address to your ebay store, and pass these around or leave them in any high traffic area, convience stores, hair salons, etc... one of the most effective methods is to search for other sellers that sell items similar to yours and at a price that is comparable to yours and use the link provided in your my ebay area and invite that seller to participate in cross-promoting each others items. what this does is to show a few of your items similar to his/hers near the bottom of his auction/store listing and provides a link to your listing. this works both ways, and helps to increase traffic for both of you. Now, to keep track of whether any of these methods have generated more traffic for you, always enable the free statistics counter option available when you create a new listing. this will show you the number of times your item was viewed. hope this helps you as much as it has me! Good Luck!

If you are just fighting on price, you have no chances. China can ship the same 3 oz. parcel to US CHEAPER than you from US! That's true.
Be creative, that's what I try to do on eBay. Sometimes it works so good that in a couple of months everybody else is doing it, and it is time to move forward with something new.
    Good luck

  • Everything you've said about driving traffic to your listings basically breaks some of the most common mistakes eBayers make.

One thing I want to ask - is how are you exploiting the views to actions ratio?

This is the BIGGEST factor in eBay's search algorithm.

Why? Because it makes THEM money. When items have actions, and sell for higher prices, then eBay makes more money.

You have GOT to stack the factors to get ACTIONS to your listings higher based on their HISTORICAL behavior.

You can't take a 'stick-your-finger-in-the-wind' approach with this. You can actually predict how much items WILL sell for BEFORE you list them - what strategy yields that price, and how to rank them higher using those strategies.

It's what I've been teaching for years.

Price doesn't increase turnover, RANK does.

The Chinese are killing many industries and yours happens to be one of those. A few customers still prefer quality over price so that might be an option to pursue if your product, is in fact, of higher quality than the Chinese.

If your not suffering from market saturation.. meaning your not selling the majority of the product in the eBay marketing.. and to clarify.. that means if there are other sellers selling the same items on ebay and making money.. then just open 4-5 ebay accounts and gain more exposure, or try expanding out your listings (avoiding the dup).. gain more market.

Another great one.. mystery boxes.. offer a iPhone whatever whatever for sale mystery box, in which they have a X in 1000 chance of getting it.. for $0.01... one chance per customer! People looking for an iphone will buy it to try to get it.. since its virtually a free offer.. give them a free gift with it.. build a mailing list, and start blasting offers that way. Plus it gets you auction exposure and cross traffic.

PS This is off the top of my head.. ebay might not allow it.. so use at your own risk or really think out the idea behind my 30 second ponder.

Not sure if this works today. It was a strategy I used to get Google page 1 traffic.

If you pay for featured listings (cost money) they will appear in the Google search results on first page, usually in position 1-3 instantly because of eBay's authority, and stick there for months.

Pick your keywords to put in the title carefully. Obviously use high volume kw's on the items your selling in the title. Your keyword will go on top of Google organic search instantly because it's of "feature listing" traffic in eBay, Google will pick this up automatically ranking your feature listing at the top of Google organic search.

However if your selling iphone cases for under $5 feature listings are not feasible. Works for high ticket items and that's what I sold.

Like I said not sure if it still works today.

If you're going to sell something like cases, I would recommend pushing the quality aspect. I wouldn't get into cell phone cases unless I had my own branded product with superior quality. When you're just selling generic cases, you're a small fish in a gigantic crowded pond.

Electronic accessories (with exception to Name Brand Original Product) is dominated on a monopoly scale on eBay. Without even researching, I know who your competitors are. eForcity, accstation, blah blah.

It's hard to knock these guys down.

You - Import for .25 cents a piece shipping and think it's a good deal.
They - Import for 1/10 of a penny shipping container loads at a time.

You - Get ok pricing that generates some sales
They - manufacture their own cases with no middle man involved direct to consumer.

You - Pay X amount to pick, pack, pull ship
They - Pay a lot less with volume discount, software automation and outsources foreign labor.

Even if your price of the product was the same they would out margin you 5X on their logistics "savings" that they're able to achieve from scaling their business.
    ____________________

I had a buddy of mine who sold accessories on eBay and sold a lot. (like 100,000 a month) He started to nip at the big boys heals and even had Jack of eForcity on a few phone calls to buy him out. At the end of the day, eForcity didn't buy him out. They just lowered all their prices below his until they drove him out of business.

Shoot, even my self when I was selling cell phones on eBay and Amazon sold data cables for $.99 cents. I took a 2 cent loss on every one because it helped acquire customers, allow for more feedback revision request and balance off the negative/neutral feedback that's much more likely selling used cell phones.

People hates us and constantly reported us (eBay would call us and spill the beans).

To sum it up, accessories are very tough, especially in mobile phones on eBay.

    ____________________

Now that's not to say that someone with a NICHE and outside the box focus can't ensure greater chances of success on eBay regardless of the competitors.

    - First do a deep analysis. Are your prices lower, even or higher than the majority of competitors?

Consider doing something "different" with the same items or focus on some SKU categories that the competitors don't seem to have a stong hold on.

Without knowing exactly what it is you're selling, you'll find some success bundling similar items together. ....

ex: Someone comes to eBay to search for a case for their iPhone 5. Usually a case purchase isn't a "necessity" like a charging cable might be if someones broke and they can't charge their phone.

Bundle a hard case a soft case and a screen protector all in one package deal. The shipping won't cost you that much more to ship all three than it would just one item.

Take good pictures ( not stock photos) and make sure to fill out all the item specifics for color, compatible models etc. Most of the time a case might fit more than one brand or is universal and it's well within eBay's TOS to spam as many compatible models in the item specifics as possible to help with the "Best Match" search results and allow you to make best use of your title without spamming models numbers there.

If you give me your store link, I would be happy to take a look and see if I might be able to suggest some recommendation that might increase your selling on eBay.

Ebay's are serious about trying to start their own business, small sellers or seller with a new eBay store can succeed slowly but surely they increase the traffic to their store and listing. There are having several tips you must follow to increase the traffic on any online store or eBay store. First and most important point is focus on niche market, use all ebay's free marketing, list the items regularly in auctions. Utilize bump auctions sites, create a customer database, write the ebay guides and reviews, offer many products, keeping diversity in a niche market can really help items to gain traffic and exposure.

Bro, you're selling in an EXTREMELY competitive niche.
I think your technique is correct, but you just have too many competitors on eBay selling at really low prices like you are doing.
You either have to find a unique range of phone cases, or you need to move on to a completely different niche.

But if you want to stick to this niche, find a unique range of products and BRAND them. You'll stand out from competitors that's for sure.

Btw are you doing email marketing?

  • I agree with Jumbo1.

The niche you have chosen is very competitive.

You'll want to find a niche that has 2 criteria.

    #1, Good demand
    #2, Manageable competition.

There are metrics to calculate this, and this MUST be done in order to achieve highest potential.

In looking at cell phone cases, there are just a lot of them there - even if you margins were high.

You don't want to sell items at a high turnover with low margins. This labor doesn't justify your profits.

I advocate selling fewer items for higher margins, but that doesn't mean your turnover cannot be matched if you're following certain principles.

I've been teaching this for years, AND HAVE EXPERIENCE, and the data is just too good to pass up.
