That will walk you through the entire process. You then should look at the other sub forums since this one is for ecommerce.

You can create a free blog with the Wordpress and you need not to learn more about the development. Wordpress is very easy to use and can updated with the little help from the Internet.

If you are going to write something related to your work, you can just login with your credentials and click on the "add new". In this way you can enter your content with the step given in the webpage. follow these simple steps and post what you want.

  • Sign up for something like Hostgator.

Try to do it yourself, screw it up really, really bad, call up hostgator, and have them install it for you.

That's what I did my first time... Now dozens of sites later, I'm doing fine.

But the video posted will also help. It's very easy, but any hosting company will do it for you with the Wordpress install module on their cPanel if you can't figure it out.

Something to understand is that there are two kinds of wordpress. There's wordpress.com and wordpress.org. Wordpress.com is easier to get started with but slightly less powerful. Wordpress.org is more powerful but it's kind of a bitch to set up, as you have to get hosting, download some files, upload them to a host, etc.

      1) if you just want to get your feet wet and try this whole blogging thing out, sign up for an account at wordpress.com. It's easy and you can always transfer the website over to another host and install wordpress.org if you decide that's what you want.
      2) get hosting from a company like bluehost.com. Bluehost is cool because after you set up your account you can basically click a button and it will install the wordpress.org version of wordpress on your site for you. Makes the whole thing much easier.

I've done both and if you have a little extra money (I think bluehost and a domain name is about $100 for a year) the second is probably your best bet.

I started wordpress by first watching this video on how to get wordpress on to hostgator
A crude website/blog can be set up very quickly. More sophisticated things can done using slide shows, you can also down public domain pictures using a plugin. Wordpress is all about plugins, I found this site really useful since it points to the right youtube videos.

Here's a little guide I put together when friends/clients want to create a blog for several reasons or just want to get into internet marketing. I have 5 basic principles that I believe every internet marketer/content marketer should abide by; I believe those that prepare carefully and learn these skills catch on faster and find the financial success they're looking for quicker.

    Prep

    1. Find a niche, industry or topic you're passionate about. Something you follow daily, whether it's politics, a certain kind of product or a hobby. Mostly everything is marketable and offers a way to make money, others require a bit more thinking outside of the box.

    2. Hone your copywriting skills. Focus on correcting your grammar when composing emails, pay attention to different writing styles, and improve your prose. Almost everything on the internet that isn't driven directly by sales and advertising requires good content.

    3. Learn basic, bare-minimum HTML and CSS. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous or are a fast learner, you should also try your hand at graphic design.

    4. Become analytical; learn what different metrics mean, take free Google Analytics courses, read and learn. Being able to identify behaviors and adapt to them will become your biggest ally.

    5. Research and line up your tools. When looking for things, always include "best practices" in your search terms. Yes, there are some tools that work great that most people don't know about, but there's no sense in reinventing the wheel, either; there's a reason why people are talking about these tools and using them.

    Establishing a Web Presence

    1. For your first time, pick the least expensive hosting and domain provider. Once you figure out how this works, you can adjust your platforms accordingly. Make sure that your domain is as closely related to your topic as possible (a domain with a keyword in it is even better).

    2. Install WordPress using tutorials and videos if you're completely new to this thing, then pick one of the several free templates. Don't choose your theme by appearance (i.e. color scheme), but the actual architecture - what is placed where. Whenever you're choosing something that affects the end product, always look at it from a user experience standpoint.

    3. Implement your tools. Create profiles on all major social networks and industry-related blogs, forums and other places. Put your brand anywhere you can without being spammy (don't spam your car website on a forum for diabetics).

    4. Once the website is built to your liking and you've followed through to make sure the reader/customer will have a great experience, start adding content. You'll learn the smaller tactics that improve SEO, conversions, etc. with time and extra reading.

    5. Don't be afraid to copy competitors/peers. If another person is enjoying success, you can also capitalize on what they're doing right, but make sure to personalize it, so it doesn't feel like a cheap rip.

    6. If you're opening an eCommerce site, (and this could be true for any site in general) always make yourself different without sacrificing the end-user experience. If all websites in your niche have text-only front pages, try spicing it up with a well-placed video.

One more misc tip: read. Read until you can't anymore. Go on different websites and sign up for emails, make transactions, and get a feel for what feels right and what feels lazy/uninspired. Then take a step back and ask "What does my website make me feel like?" You'll always be biased because you've spent countless hours developing this; no one calls their baby ugly.

tl;dr learn to read, become analytical, focus on branding & customer experience, develop unique content and a pleasurable experience, and the success (whether you measure it in visitors or dollars and cents) will soon follow.
