Hello warriors, I do have an ecommerce website in which I am selling fishing gears. Now I want to start a rental fishing gears (in packages) section, however I want to collect my customers credit card info when they make purchases just in case if they mail gears back to me and there is a damage. In this case I want to be able to charge them. I have seen this system on anything rental, but I am totally unfamiliar how I can do that and how I can set this up. And what if they sent it to me and they deny that they have damaged it? how rental websites prove that a customer has damages their tools and how they can charge them?
thanks

As an X merchant service rep, i suggest you talk to your processor. You will need a DEPOSIT from your customer & a disclaimer on your website. This is not something you want to 'wing' or you run the risk of losing your merchant account...MAYBE forever. It could be considered bank fraud...ALL processors share a negative/fraud database

If a customer wants to pay cash, you have no right to ask for a credit card number unless you have a detailed, legally reviewed, and binding business policy that is presented to the customer BEFORE they make a purchase so they can decide if they are comfortable with giving up the card info and entering into a transaction where you have final say. This is not the best way to attract customers even though you are trying to reduce loss. Spend the money for a legal person who can suggest a policy that appeals to both you and your potential customers. If you charge a card because you felt it was the right thing to do, believe it or not, you can be accused of fraud.
