been wondering what i will do for returns once business is live, this is also making me hesitant to use any international suppliers (even though certain products international is a must), because international returns will be hell!

what do you guys and gals do for returns and your returns policy?

I have a friend who sells camera equipment through ebay and his own online site. He said that when he first started two years ago, he was international--now just USA. He said some regions of the world are more notorious for returns, charge backs, and any other thing you can think of. He recommended for me to stay domestic until I felt it necessary to go outside of my home turf. It can be brutal. However, others have said that they have had very few issues. Hope this helps.

I always have a return policy on my website. In this policy I outline our return policy. This would include:
    • Returns allowed within 30 days of purchase
    • Product must be in sell able condition with all tags attached and original packaging.
    • Customer must go through our return process. Except for Shopify every modern cart has a Returns Authorization module.
    • If customer does not go through the RA, returns will not be honored
    • It is the customers responsibility to ship the product back to the address specified.

I also make sure that they click the buttons that states they agree with terms and conditions when they check out. This will protect you as courts have found when customers click through, they agree to terms and conditions. Will this protect you from PayPal? Maybe not if the customer creates a SNAD clame.

As for dropshippers, it all depends.

Does your dropshipper take returns? Yes? Great, is there a restocking fee?
Does your dropshipper take returns? No? Ok you need either a mailbox or PO box where it can be sent to.

If you are getting a lot of returns, start having them shipped to you so you can see what might be causing them.

    Does this help?

It really depends on the drop shipper you are using. When I was using drop shippers in China I was never able to get any money back for defective items unless I returned the item back to China. So whenever I refunded my customer, I was out the $. As a result, I HATED handling returns because it was very expensive for me. But now I am using a new drop shipper that is based in the US. They have a very good return policy so now I can offer my customers a very nice return policy as well. So it's all dependent upon how well your drop shipper is going to compensate you for lost or damaged merchandise.
