getting UK IT dsitributor - no references

i'm sure some of you will know of westcoast ltd in the UK, one of the big IT distributors.

I'm a sole trader and never had any suppliers before, and in their application form they want 3 references one of which must be an IT distributor but I've never had one before. Is there no chance of them letting me open a trade account?

Even though I am asking for cash on order and not credit, I feel like my 1 man company will seem worthless to them and they'll just fail my app

    I suggest that you need to personally contact someone in sales, even if it is not the top man or woman. Say that you need to clarify something to do with your plan to retail their products.

    If you do get to speak to someone, provided you have the funds available, offer to place an initial order of sufficient value to prove that you are genuinely retailing and not just trying to buy wholesale for your personal use.

    It is problems like this whereby local suppliers treat prospective resellers like pariahs that makes so many turn to importing. Overseas suppliers will welcome you with open arms, and with no strings attached provided you can pay, but beware of overseas dropshippers.
