Hey Warriors,

I'm thinking about setting up a paintball drop shipping website and I'm looking for feedback. I've done very little keyword research, but think I could make some money if I got things going. Do you guys think the market is too saturated to make any money?

  • To tell the truth, Paint ball products sell really good. Its a major sport for teens to middle ages. Are you going to dropship high end products or low end?

I'm not sure yet. Probably offer both at first and see how it goes and which products sell better. If any sell. :/

I wish you luck. I was in the industry for years. Field, store, and website owner. The problem with online sales is like you said.....saturated. People buy online paintball equipment based on price. Pretty tough to make much of a markup when most national retailers are selling product online at 5 to 20% above wholesale cost.

You can get much bigger profit margins if you buy direct from the overseas manufacturers, even in small quantities. In my importing business that I ran for 22 years before retirement the barest minimum markup was total landed cost x 250%, but it was often more than that.

I always heard that market was pretty saturated. Maybe you could specialize in the high end guns and accessories?

I've thought about that, but most of those companies have a minimum order. I'm leaning towards drop shipping. I don't have space or capital at the moment to buy and store products in large quantities.

Minimum order Quantities (MOQs) are only there to deter small fry and newbies.

I teach how to safely find the real manufacturers and how to get them to agree to supply small orders regardless of the big MOQs they quote.

This is a pretty good market, focus your keywords on the individual guns - there are two types of searchers for this, the people who don't know what they want and the people who do.

It's hard to rank for something like "paintball guns" - and those guys don't know what they want. But if I'm searching for a Tippman A5, I'm a buyer... and the #1 result is ebay and #2 is the brand site. That means no one is actively trying to rank on it.

One more tip, write your own product descriptions. Makes all the difference in the world, and it will separate you from the other bulk sellers. Build a brand for yourself around being the authority in all things Paint Ball.

I agree with Ron that writing your own product descriptions will make a big difference in SEO in the long term. You don't necessary need to compete with price. If your description and message give the best impression to the buyer and the site looks profession, then you will have no problem in conversion. Good luck to you!!
