I have a question, can you a person clone an existing megento site and update the licences of the ext.s and customize the theme to the new store logo and catelog, and create a new site that way.

I would save time and money, it the exact shore we want but we need to change the niche and theme. I had this idea when we moved the site to a dedicated host from a shared and i remember doing this in WP. Now i know its more complex but if anyone can help me with this

PM me with a price and more info

Or just post your thoughts on it

If you own the initial store, and just want to open a new store with different branding, you can do it through the multi-store option in Magento. Just need to apply the theme to that particular store.

Yes. Magneto supports multiple sites. You would need the necessary licenses for any extensions or themes.

Yes i know of that, I wanted to open a new store that will use the same ext,s and features, but not have to wait for the installation all over again.

Just like copying a WP site with 100 plug ins, then changing the content and theme.

The answer is yes that can be done however there are some exceptions.

A Magento installation can be copied or transferred to another server. We have a production server and a development server. Periodically we copy the production installation over to the development server.

We use the development installation to test new extensions, ideas etc. before we make them live on the production system.

Some Magneto extensions/themes have special licences do not allow you to run them on different machines simultaneously without buying another license.

Magneto actually has a built in Backup/Restore feature that can do this but there are some documented bugs with it. The next version (1.8 CE) corrects these problems.
