I am about ready to launch my store, but need to ask how you handle shipping. How do you go about the labeling and package end? USPS, UPS, FedEx? Which one provides you with the easiest way to print, pay postage, and box merchandise? And, with which one have you had the fewest issues? I really need a step-by-step instruction guide...well, it's not that bad, really:confused: But, any tips would be appreciated

We use ShipStation.com and are mostly happy with it. It works with USPS. FedEx, DHL, UPS and others and it integrates with most major shopping carts.

There is another recent thread on this topic.

You can do it multiple ways, usually it represents the amount of volume you have. I have not used shipwire yet but I am sure it is a good option once your volume comes up. Here is what you can do.

PayPal - You can purchase shipping through PayPal and it will give you some discount. You can print it through your home printer or go get a label printer like Dymo or brother labeler.

Stamps.com/Endicia - Monthly fee but gives you commercial rates and you can buy either templates to automate it, or do them individually. I have used Stamps and it works fine but I have said in other threads that doing it over I would do Endicia since you can do first class (less than 13 ounces) out of the box with tracking and no extra forms.

All else fails, USPS.com allows you to print postage directly from the website.

I used Pitney Bowes which included a scale and the software that printed the postage on my labels. The labels I bought at an office store. I bought another scale that handled much bigger, heavier products as well.

Nowadays stamps.com and a whole assortment of others are available. When it comes down to it, the shipping costs are all the same (unless you ship a LOT, then setup a UPS account), so it's just rental fees and the related software quality.

I personally used previously-used boxes and also bought boxes and containers from Uline.

Then, once or twice per day, I'd drop the boxed and labeled packages off at the USPS. If it was really heavy or I needed special delivery I'd go to the UPS store. I've never had good luck with Fedex, so refused to use them anymore.

You want the method that is the fastest and most efficient. When you are just starting out with only a few shipments per week, you may want to go with one that you simply log into a site and print. However, once you have many shipments per day logging into a site and printing probably isn't going to be good enough. At that point pay a monthly fee to use specialized equipment. The drawback of my situation was that the labels I'd buy were thicker than they needed to be, but there was no other choice with my printer. If the service includes a special label printer (or you simply buy one) then I'd go with that. It will save you money in the long run.

*Last tip: You can have one or two ink stamps made at your local office store. The stamps could have your company name and/or website.

Thanks, all. These are some great tips. I would like something that is easy to use and fast. This is the first of the final three steps to launch, so this helps a lot. Again, thanks.
