Charging monthly subscription for website membrship

I am working on website which would be subscription based and wonder how to go about?
I guess I need credit card processing and paypal option would be good too.
Another consideration is recurring monthly payments.
How should I go about it? Any info is greatly appreciated as I am new to this.

    It really depends on what you are selling. If it is information products there are tons of scripts for both Wordpress and Drupal that will automate the process for you, and they will tell you what carts or payment providers they work with. For example they all work with PayPal. For information products, I use Wordpress with Digital Access Pass which works with PayPal, authorize.net, 1 shopping cart and clickbank.

    If it is physical products or consumables, there are several carts that provide for subscription type business out of the box. Americommerce does for hosted and opencart, magento and others do it in opensource.

    If you give a little more information we could probably help you more. For example, if you use clickbank, you don't have to worry about getting a merchant account since they do the processing for you. But if you use 1shopping cart, you either need paypal or a merchant account and authorize.net.
