I am new to drop shipping but have been selling online for about 5 years (I had my own products or was just an affiliate).

How do I go about finding a drop shipper for a certain niche.

For example if I want to sell poker chips who do I contact to do the drop shipping for me?

I haven't done drop shipping, but studied it for a while. You would typically need to find a distributor in the niche and contact them directly to see if they do drop shipping.

There is also a company... World Wide Brands which is a drop ship directory. I have never used them or don't know much about them, but they have been around since 1999.

I go to the manufacturers site, find all distributors and call them. see who drop ships and pick 5 SKUs to compare pricing from each.. watch out for drop ship fees too.

    Hi rjd1265,

You basically need to search for wholesalers/distributors for your given product. If its a brand named product there will likely be an exclusive distributor for your area. Have a look on their site they may provide details about whether they drop ship or not. Its always best to talk to them though to ask questions about drop shipping, shipping charges, minimum orders, price list, do they have a product feed etc.. I like to email first, then follow up with a call.

Depending on the product, finding a supplier can be difficult. Don't take it personally if they won't work with you either. Some reasons you might get turned down: They don't drop ship, they have large minimum orders, they require minimum sales amount per month/quarter/whatever, they only sell to retail, you don't have trade referrals, they require retail face-to-face after sales service etc....

I'm only mentioning these things so you don't give up if/when they happen. There are plenty of suppliers who will work with you, just keep looking!! Best of luck.

    Great advice here from Pavv.

The only thing I do differently is always call first. I know a lot of people who have been very successful when emailing suppliers but I find that calling helps speed the approval process along. The calls are usually only a few minutes long but they get the application process rolling right away.

Agree with Anton, speaking to someone is really important especially if you want things to get done. A phone call will make it more personal and will put you closer to the top of their to do list. I guess I like to email because I can collate the questions I need to ask, and can refer to it during the phone call. Also, I'm good at getting off the phone only to realize 5 seconds later I forget to ask about xyz!!

For non-English speaking people, do you think it's a good idea to hire someone from Fiverr or oDesk to make the phone call? Any disadvantages?

Assuming you are hiring a reputable and reliable seller who has worked in customer service contacting companies before, this could be a very good idea.
