Hello,Yes you can set product meta tags.

1)By going in the "Admin panel" > "select Catalog" > "Manage Products".

2)Select the respective product to edit by clicking Edit on its respective row.

3)Select Meta Information tab from the left panel. It will display a window that will contain Meta Title,Meta Keywords and Meta Description.Enter the Meta Title,Meta Keywords and Meta Description and save the product.

Do yourself a favor. Do the work in your product import spreadsheet. Clicking product by product in the front end is painful. Very painful.

Yes - but you can get Magento plugins to make it easier if you have a huge number

eg [Product Name] by [Manufacture] is only [size] etc

The actual meta description tag supplies a brief description of your respective web page which may be used by search engines or directories. This description could affect your SERP, and can also show up directly in search results.

Here is 1 sample from Groupon:
Giving daily deals at restaurants, retailers and companies.

When a lookup happen, your meta labels will insist your customer to settle on whether to click the site or not necessarily.

So Meta tag is important should you be targeting people through organic search. Intended for paid search, it's not important.

Don't worry about meta tags. Just the Title Tags and Alt text still matter. Meta Tags died ages ago.

If you want to add a custom meta tag to your Magento store, you need to edit the head.phtml file of your template. The location of the file is inside your Magento Installation directory.

    app/design/frontend//default/template/page/html/head.phtml

You should replace in the path above with the actual folder for your template.

Then you need to edit the file and add your custom meta tag to it.

Finally, you should flush the Magento cache and reload your website in your browser. You can check the source code of the page (Ctrl + U for most browsers) to make sure your meta tag is included properly.

Does Magento rename all your product images? I have always been told that the image name could help SEO as well if labelled properly: ipad-32gb-white.jpg instead of 193581-53dsc.jpg. I was always lead to believe too that hyphens were a better way of spacing words in image names instead of underscores—not sure if that still holds true but it's something I have always done.
