In other words you have a blog that gains a following but it isn't linked on your online store - does it still help your store if there are links to your site on your blog such as in the about section?

Thanks

    1. do you mean a WP blog w/o links to your e-store?
    2. no links from your store to your WP blog?
    3. links on your e-store blog to WP blog?

1)Wordpress blog that has a link to the the e-store in the about section so on a part of the blog

    2) The blog gets transfered to the store but it seems to be that it transfers the data and comments over and not the blog in the sense that blog likes don't show there and it seems to require manual updating so when new posts get made on the wordpress blog it requires a manual update on the webstore on shopify

3)No links directly to the wordpress blog from the e-store

Okay, you can place a direct link, depending on the WP theme, in the Widget area. This will take you directly to your store. Something like, "visit mysite.com." Also, Shopify allows you to link from your store using a WP blog. You simply have to turn off the store blog through your admin panel. So, in this way, it creates a loop from the store to the WP blog, and the WP blog to the store.

It looks like the Shopify widget may only work with wordpress.org.

Also the blog comes out a little weird in Shopify that it seems to load a lot of the posts at one time - this may be customizable though, but it also doesn't allow for posts to be liked, like on Wordpress so that could make it seem like less people are reading without people liking different posts.

So I'm not sure if wordpress.com has the same benefits as the wordpress.org blogs.

Edit: Someone said having the same blog on the site and wordpress could be potentially risky search wise so it looks like keeping the blog to the website and getting rid of the wordpress one may actually be ideal.

    Thanks

I would only use my WP blog to drive traffic to my store. I like the idea of using the blog in my Shopify theme to provide a product history, detail, and forth-coming prods, etc. This is only done 3-4 times a month. Your newsletter will also keep your signed-up customers in the know of upcoming products and interesting tidbits about sales, seasonals, etc.; and the newsletter can be send twice a month--you don't want to inundate them: customers will turn on you or ignore you all together, I have been warned (don't really know how true this last one is? Need to test this).

I've had a Wordpress blog feeding traffic to my online store for years. It will generate as much or as little traffic as you are willing to work for. Also, if you ever decide to sell the online store, the blog should go with it, which adds a lot of value.

By the way, Wordpress is the easiest and most effective site platform I have found. It saves a lot of time due to it's ease of use and expansion potential.

Yes for sure. As long as you continue maintaining and marketing your blog (And your online store), it will definitely help. If both are relevant to each other than even better. If they are not relevant to each other (Your blog and online store), I prefer not to put a link. Unless you have tons of other relevant links from other sources and than I guess a little indirect link diversification wouldn't hurt but help.
