Let's assume you have taken the necessary steps of obtaining your Federal Employer Identification Number, state sales tax exemption certificate and you have a credit card with a decent line of credit. You're probably raring to go and feel like you’re ready to slam your foot down all the way to the floor on your dropship accelerator.

But before you do, there is one very important decision you have to make before you open your dropshipping business.

What products are you going to sell?

In truth, if you have a ton of quality manufacturers lined up, all the necessary paperwork completed and a big line of credit, but you choose the wrong products to dropship, you will find yourself in a bad place rather quickly.

In the next couple of blog posts, I will give you some basic tips on how to avoid shooting yourself in the foot by choosing the wrong products to sell online.

Should You Sell What You Know?

Many new dropshippers often try to apply a form of the "write what you know" formula that's suggested to beginning writers by "purchasing products that they know or like" for their dropshipping businesses.

This can be a serious mistake

For example; I love all kinds of electronics, computers, cell phones and tablets. But the competition is so fierce and the saturation of the market is so complete that there are virtually no margins for a dropshipper. If you make the mistake and order such products, you are sure to lose money.
