Hey guys, long time lurker and first time poster here.

I have a bit of a problem, i own a site that re-sells independent brands of clothing. I'm 19 and i started this business 6 months ago when i was 18 and i invested nearly everything i had saved into it. Honestly i think the niche is solid, but im not sure how i can improve my site. I also don't know how to make my content rank on search engines.

My site is Home | Shop-Indie if anyone could take a quick look and give me some feedback I'd appreciate it, i know there is a lot i can improve on but I want to know what you guys think.

Thanks guys!

      Where to start...

Very few trust factors on the website. No About Me, Contact Us, Terms and Conditions, Privacy, Shipping or returns policy.

Who are you and why should we care about your brand?
      What is your philosophy?
How much does it cost to ship?
Can I return them if I don't like them?

Product descriptions - There aren't any. 200 -500 words to describe your products. Not sure what to say about socks? Better figure it out so that when people go to see a product they are invested in the brand and get what you are selling. How many come with the socks? One pair? several pair? different colors? No one knows what they are getting.

Reduce the size of your banners. It takes two page downs before you even get to your products.

Have you used the comparison shopping engines yet? What about Pinterest which is popular for brands like this. What about the products in "action", not just static pictures?

        this says everything
        1) you need to redo your cart
        2) your pages does not seem dynamic
        go for oscommerce
        site should be fast.
        all information should be there
each product should have more images
look at indian sites flipkart.com and jabong.com
specially clothes section one can see each product closely

        first create model perfect model
        then add information

after that you can do online promotions and offline promotions

If something I can buy for 100 bucks somewhere I would seek your site if its cheaper Then only I will take risk...

and fromt he looks of your site I dont think you have any process management implemented ,
how orders are tracked or processed
how much time does it take to deliver at different address
what is the shipping method etc..

try selling something small which is very cheap and cheaper at your site
small amount anyone can risk or something which people cant get easily.

what is the main attraction , positive point of your site why should they buy from your site. ? what extra they will get that they wont get anywhere else .

when you are ready then promote your site.

online store is not that easy that you just upload information and you do little bit promotion this wont sell products

your would be customers money should be safe
you should build trust --- only marketing does not work

so be prepared for the basics first then try to promote your site,.

        I buy online because,
I get special offers on branded products,
I can return product if I dont like it
        cash on delivery
I can get size changed if size is wrong ( even my mistake)
I see full range of product options in different brands in different online store
and product is mostly delivered next working day
what else do I need I also save time, and cost of visiting each store. and if in case i need to change then extra time and cost.

so think from customer point of view
and not from a seller point of view.

Thanks guys! Looks like I have quite a bit of work to do then haha. I've started with your recommendations by adding terms and conditions and Shipping & returns.

Tomorrow i am going to start with writing all of the descriptions, one thing i have noticed is just a complete lack of information (mainly due to your recommendations) So im going to add sizing, material information and anything else i deem useful as a consumer.

As for changing eCommerse software, that isnt possible at the moment i dont have the money to change provider and buy a decent theme.

Images are something else i have wanted to tackle for a while, when im paid in a few weeks time I'm going to see if i can get some cheap models from a local art college to model for me. One thing i have always thought is that the images didnt reeally show off how you could wear the clothes that i sell so this is something that i think needs to change aswell.

You can gain huge traffic from forums and social websites, instagram, pinterest etc...
I know of sellers who only market through these sources and some of them don't even have websites!
You can also discuss in relevant forums about your product and attract them to visit your website.

Ok i did quite a bit of work, made a few new pages (about us, contact, T&C, shipping and returns and privicy and security) I also rid did some images and resized others to make them fit alot better. About what you guys said about the image on the home screen being too big i completely agree, however when i try to resize it the theme doesnt adapt and leave a massive gap between the new bottom of the images and the 'New arrivals' part of the site. The thing is a have little to no knowledge of html and I will defiantly not be able to work on the layout page of the theme.

I also managed to add a neat little accepted cards image into the layout code. Only issue i really have now is the one i mentioned, when i have a smaller home screen image there is a huge white gp between the bottom of that image and where my home screen products are shown. Any idea's?

Well Done, You have done all changes as per suggested by the skilled technos here. But there is something which sounds grrr.... like your cart and search button looks very small in front of your landing page design. You can change the template for the design issue and check out some decent theme for your clothing store, there are so many free as well as pro themes available from many CMS in the market. Good Luck!

There are some very good suggestions about your site design and content. And if you can follow the marketing methods they recommend, your site will get traffic gradually. Here I just suggest one tool. As an online shopping store, customers may need some help before they purchase your clothes, such as size, shipping, etc. If you can resolve their questions in real time, your sales conversion will be improved. Therefore, you can add live chat to your site, such as Live Person, Comm100 Live Chat, etc. Good luck.

You barely have anything on the site.
You only have clothes on the website.
You need to have more clothes in your store, and second isn't anything in your site that would put you on the search engine. You need to have articles about your brand, or blogs written about it on your page and off page as well. So that then you can ping it all over the internet and spread the name of your site everywhere.
And you spread it so much that you type in any keyword about your brand that the first thing that would pop up would be your website.
Next is that when you put in more things, you also need a Live Chat software installed to your website so that your customers would always be in communication with your company and you would be able to collect data from their chats and understand more about your customers as to what they want

Horizontal Scrolling. It would be better if you get rid of horizontal scrolling because users hate to scroll left to right. It's disorienting and annoying, so if you've got it, lose it. Vertical scrolling is ok if you have to have it, but consider moving larger blocks of information to another page and providing links. There's also the danger of missing vital information that falls below the screen if a user decides not to scroll down to view it. So if you’ve got to have a scrolling page, try to keep all your important information above the fold. Also try SEOclerks, as you can find many freelancers on this site providing traffic at a cheap rate.

  • I have visit your website and found some ERRORS which are not good for your website. In my opinion you need to perform Search Engine Optimization which is included On-Page and Off-Page Optimization as well as you need to do proper Image Optimization.
Also you need to do Social Media Marketing and also promote them in your local community.
After proper Website Optimization your website will come on the TOP or 1st page on the major search engines, so if your website come on the TOP so definitely website traffic will increase and you will get genuine inquiry from the serious buyers.

Some really good digital marketing suggestions on this thread; I'd suggest doubling down on email marketing and ppc in particular. Also, what are you doing offline to promote your business? Are you doing events?

I prefer organic method. Make sure your eCommerce website is optimised correctly and then go for paid marketing.

-Do keyword research- Don't Step Off On The Wrong Foot
    - Use catchy image with multiple angles and optimize your image AlT tags
    - Be sure your website don't have 404 error. Landing on 404 page is very bad experience for user.
    - Avoid keyword stuffing
    - Start email marketing campaign. Be sure your email template is responsive.
    - Add a blog to your sites and post relevant article continuously.
    - Run PPC campaign
