Struggling to make a good website

I think your website looks really good, especially if this is your first one. I'm not a design expert, but I can say what I would change if it were my site.

First I'd replace the "Welcome" logo at the top with something more custom, like "Professional CV Editing Service" or something like that.

I'd also replace the text in the white block at the top. Start with a good headline like "Land your dream job 2x faster with an upgraded CV" or "If you want to get hired in today's job market, then you need a professional CV" or "Professional CVs increase your chances of getting a job by 200%" or "Your CV is the most important part of your resume" or " If you don't have a professional CV, you won't be seen as a professional" or "The only thing standing between you and your dream job is the right CV" or... you get the idea. I'm definitely not a copywriting expert, so I suggest you look for some headline ideas that have been proven to work. There's a copywriting subforum here if you want to check it out.

If you want to change it up a bit, that upper right page area is a perfect place for an optin box to collect emails for marketing. You could provide a free offer like "5 tips to land a job in 30 days" or a free report going over "The shocking truth about getting hired in today's job market" or something to that effect. Then once people sign up, they get the freebie plus you can set up a weeks worth of emails giving helpful tips and selling them on your service.

The only other things I can think of would be to add a nice professional image or 2 somewhere on the page and talk more about the benefits and why people need to use your services. Again, this is where copywriting comes in.

Personally, when I'm building a site I check out other sites in the same niche and when I see one that has the look I'm going for, I enter the site into http://whatwpthemeisthat.com/ to see if they're using a free theme that I can use, too. WordPress is a popular website foundation that you can use pretty easily without any html, css, coding experience, etc.

Other than that, I think your site is off to a great start! Congratulations and keep at it

Thanks to everyone. I'll leave my current site up whilst I learn wordpress and give it a go.

I've had 2 or 3 customers already with almost no advertising, so hopefully I should be able to get a good thing going here
